Frankie Dettori fails drug test...for cocaine?

That would cost potential rides in the season’s first four Classics, covering the 1000 Guineas, 2000 Guineas, The Oaks and The Derby.

A well-placed source said last night: “Frankie has failed a test for a banned substance which is thought to be cocaine. This is obviously very serious for him.”

According to an unnamed horse, "He's off his tits."

Dettori’s solicitor Christopher Stewart-Moore released a statement yesterday saying: “On behalf of Frankie Dettori I can confirm that, as a consequence of a positive test at Longchamp on September 16, 2012, he will be the subject of an inquiry by the Medical Committee of France Galop next week.

“In compliance with, and out of respect for, the regulations of France Galop, he will not be commenting further until the France Galop procedures are completed.”

Bookies Stan James removed 12/1 shot Dettori from betting for next year’s Jockeys’ Championship.

The dad of five plans to compete as a freelance in 2013 after the end of his 18-year association with bloodstock operation Godolphin.

In 1993 he was refused a licence to ride in Japan after a police caution in London for possession of small amount of cocaine.

Last night reporters at his home in Stetchworth, Cambs, were told he was overseas.

If anything athletes should be encouraged to take performance enhancing drugs. I might watch football if the players could kick the ball hard enough to punch through people.

The benefits of cocaine for an athlete is something that always made me wonder....

I do not know if anyone has any first hand experience of playing football when under the influence of recreational drugs, but mine was :fp:

They haven't made anything public yet, the testing agency haven't made a full statement and won't until the tribunal and all his agent has said is that he has failed for a 'non performance enhancing substance' and that is it. The rest is just speculation at the moment though he has been done for cocaine possession before which is probably helping to fuel it.

I don't really see the big deal in this story given so many celebrities do cocaine. It isn't exactly surprising.
