Basically, on December 29th 2008, my mother, in my car, got a parking ticket whilst parked outside of the hospital (visiting me). Believing that she was a responsible adult (I now realise my mistake), I assumed that she would deal with it, and didn't question it.
About 10 months ago, I got a letter telling me that it hadn't been paid. I told her to pay it, and get it sorted. By this point, we no longer lived in the house we were in when she got the ticket, and the car was now registered in her name, at our new house. Her ex-partner still lived in the old house. In February, I went round to see her ex (we're on good terms), and he had a letter for me. It was about the fine, she hadn't paid it. An extra fee had been applied, and bailiffs were being threatened, at a house I no longer lived at. I got home and told her if she didn't pay it, I'd end up in court. She assured me (after feigning ignorance) that she would get it sorted.
Now tonight. I go round to the old house again and there's another letter. One dated from May, another from June 2nd, basically saying that no more reminders will be issued, and they'd be round to collect.
I got home about an hour ago and paid it online, at £160. I'm strawberry floating livid. I'm going to call them in the morning, but will this leave me with any marks against my name or anything? Criminal record and CCJ's or whatever their called? Am I strawberry floated because my mother is an actual banana split?
AFAIK you have to be arrested to get a criminal record, and I don't think it classes as a ccj either, although in all fairness you should have waited till you called them and basically said. "Look, I just got the letter you been sending to my old address, if you drop any proceedings against me, I'll pay now."
Bitches love to negotiate.
Looks like your mother really strawberry floated you other on this one, but it could have been worse, you need to make sure this is all done and dusted now, and settle it up via a phone call asap, explain the situation and hopefully they are lenient, I doubt that there will be any further action now you've actually paid.
So you think I did the wrong thing by just paying online as soon as I got back? I'll ring them in the morning and make sure they don't send anyone round - they said that I'm still responsible for the debt until I get something in writing confirming the payment.
