Surely the moral of this tale, is to buy your magazines the old fashioned way - at your local newsagent!

When I was a kid, cycling down to the newsagent to to buy the latest issue of Mean Machines / NMS and Super Play was the highlight of my month :)

I was at work when those mags were around... still used to get ‘em, though 8-) . In my school days I used to get C+VG, Commodore User and Zzap! 64 each month  . On stone tablets etc.

Having leafed through both magazines last night I'm warming to the idea of subscribing to Retro Gamer. I don't normally do magazines at all but I'm a real sucker for nostalgia and this is literally a magazine about it. I also think in this digital day and age it's kind of nice to actually hold something physical that I can leave by the toilet in preparation for my post-work visit.

Anyone else subscribe? How reliable are they for getting things out on time (and complete in their proper packaging, which they seem to have had problems with on this particular issue)?

I have subscribed to loads of mags from Future over the years and the service has been excellent. Subscribers normally get their copies several days before the mags arrive in the shops. I currently sub to Official PlayStation and have done so for coming up to four years. I tend to buy Retro Gamer off the shelf but I would like to subscribe if I see a good offer.

Been subscribing to Official PlayStation Magazine since 1996 and never really had a problem. Damaged or lost magazines can also be easily replaced via the website.

Magazines aren't delivered in high-street packaging, just a clear bag. Up until about 2008 the magazine also never fit through the letterbox, but it used to be wider.

These days it turns up about a week in advance of the on-sale date.

:o . Blimey, KK, that’s good going! I bought OPM from launch until around issue fifty but then I felt it became a little too serious and dull... rather “Edge”-like. In the latter years of the PS1s life I returned to the mag and it was far more entertaining, perhaps because there were few games around and most were pretty poor  . I by-passed it throughout the PS2 and PS3 eras, but when the PS4 launched I started getting OPM again... let’s face it, there isn’t much choice! To be fair I think it is very good and I do enjoy reading through it.

Well there's an offer in the current Retro Gamer (or Super Play supplement, I forget which) there's an offer of getting your first 3 issues for £1 (I don't know if that's £1 for 3 issues, or each issue is £1, either way a decent offer) but that definitely caught my eye.

Did everyone get their Super Play issues, or should I just flip it Ad7 style?

Picked up a copy of this on my lunch break from Smith's. I've never read Retro Gamer or Super Play, so I'm intrigued.

I was in the loft at the weekend sorting through and organising my gaming stuff and came across the few copies of N64 Magazine I've kept from when they were originally published. I opened one and started reading, before I knew it 30 minutes had whizzed by. Great times.

Check out my YouTube channel!

:o . I'm surprised, Lotus, as I believe you're quite heavily into retro gaming? It's almost a shame that the Super Play chat is over-shadowing the main mag itself. There is a superb lead article about the PC Engine that I really enjoyed reading through.
