I’ll go in there even if I‘m not buying.

And they'll hate you for it.

And when he says 'niche title will be hidden away somewhere', I'm willing to bet it won't be. I never did manage to pick up Okamiden or Tales of the Abyss from either of them.

Jesus christ. My shares are down to 4p each :fp:

They've dropped 41% today....

I don't want anyone being made redundant either though. Most of the staff in the shops are nice people.

Er, for the benefit of those of us who are a bit hard of thinking - how, exactly?

Well, you can't say you weren't warned! Chin up, soldier. At least you limited your exposure to £100.

At one point before christmas they were actually up to £120. Ah well, might as well keep hold of them and see how it goes. Pretty pointless selling them at the moment.

Well, they should certainly be thinking about consolidating some of their stores, though obviously it's difficult to know what the state of play is there.

Difficult shmifficult, apparently. I'm sure Eight will be along presently to illuminate everything.

If the staff didn't descend upon you the moment you entered their shop I'd probably visit/stay in it longer.

I'd speculate:

1) Close surplus stores. In Edinburgh there's a GAME on Princes Street and one in St James Mall which is at the end of Princes Street. The latter strikes me as surplus to requirements. They used to have a Gamestation almost next door to aforementioned GAME store in Prince Street, but they shut it down since it was tiny.

2) Reduce prices on used stock. The practice of holding on to used games for years is not working. Drop the prices, get the sales. I expect a used copy to at least be competitive with internet prices. Note also how CEX, a company who's entire stock is used and regularly turned over, is expanding.

It's been a while since I've read such a load of old cobblers.

Apart from the awful logic and economics, the fact that he "relies on preowned" to be a gamer strikes me as either being totally clueless or just a liar.

Buying online is often (invariably?) cheaper than trading in and buying games at Game. Not to mention if you're that skint then the likes of eBay will get you more than the likes of GAME ever will.

Oh, and "The prices are okay" confirms him as a barefaced liar.

Had a gift card for the Mall and thought I'd use it for Mario Kart 7. Had a look round and the only place that had a copy was Game. Saw the price, then realised how much more it was than everywhere else. In short, strawberry float you, Game. They would have had my money had there not been a retards price tag on it.

Also, that smell.

The last two things I've ordered from them have had delivery problems. Deus Ex took 2 and a half weeks to come and my copy of LA Noire is still mysteriously absent despite being ordered before the 10th December.

I'm not using them ever again and their shops suck.

While I do agree on dropping the pre-owned prices, you have to realise that this means dropping the trade-in value too. It means that while you may get, let's say, Deus Ex for £10 (at the moment, anyway) but you're only getting £3-4 trading it in. This is a game that isn't even 6 months old. Somebody who paid £30-40 on release is going to be pretty pissed off at that kind of loss in such a short space of time.

I agree with what he says. I used to preorder games from GAME regularly, using their voucher codes, but they don't seem to come around so much anymore soi shop elsewhere. My demand between the retailers is hugely elastic and pretty much entirely dependant on price.

I've always found GAME to be a perfectly decent place to shop and their staff to be knowledgeable.

This is a tricky one. The argument is that supermarkets just take the big sellers and sell them for a small loss/no profit, thus getting people into their stores to spend money on food. But on the other hand, over Christmas I went into town wanting to buy the Sly Cooper collection and/or the Ico/Shadow of the Colossus collection. Hardly obscure items in gaming terms, but neither of the central Bristol branches sees fit to stock it.

Maybe I've just been unlucky with those particular examples. Anyhow, I ordered them both online after that, so you see...

My problem with GAME/Gamestation are the prices. The last thing I bought from them was Yakuza 3, on a maddening impulse, for £40. 40 quid! I thoroughly enjoyed the game so I don't feel that hard done by, but that price is just not competitive. They can't rely on impulse buys all the time; if a business can't stay competitive, it deserves to go under. There is no obligation on me to support them, so I'm not going to.
