Game of Thrones (TV) - US Pace - NO BOOK DISCUSSION (that means NO BOOK DISCUSSION)

Posted: Sun Apr 10, 2011 10:36 pm
by Fargo

Summers span decades, winters can last a lifetime, and the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun.

It will stretch from the south, where heat breeds plots, lusts and intrigues; to the vast and savage eastern lands; all the way to the frozen north, where an 800-foot wall of ice protects the kingdom from the dark forces that lie beyond.

Kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars, lords and honest men... all will play the 'Game of Thrones.'

A new original series based on George R.R. Martin's best-selling 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series. Winter is coming soon to Sky Atlantic HD.

Anyone else looking forward to this ?

"No book chatter please this is just to discuss the TV Show"

EDIT: A message from Eighthours...

SPOILER POLICIES FOR THIS THREAD

Please ensure that all specific plot details are spoilered before the UK airtime (currently Monday night, 9pm) in order to keep the topic safe for normal watchers. Once the episode has aired, feel free to discuss TV plot details freely but bear in mind this is a Book-discussion-free thread.

This is a TV-pace thread. There can be future plot/character speculation from people who haven't read the books and explanations of what has changed between the books and the series from those who have read the books, ONLY WHEN SUCH EXPLANATIONS DO NOT HINT AT FUTURE EVENTS BUT SIMPLY PUT THE TV INTERPRETATION FROM AN AIRED EPISODE IN CONTEXT.

If you wish to post about events that have happened ALREADY in the TV show and relate them to the books (for example, to explain a change in a certain scene), please write above the spoiler box exactly what kind of spoiler is within the box.

Examples of acceptable pre-spoiler box text: "Difference between book and TV series." "Future speculation (non-book reader)."

There should be no references to actual future events from the books in this thread. None. Never. No hints. Nothing.

If you post a book spoiler in this thread, you will be banned from the thread for a period of not less than one week.

Common sense, people. That's all it takes. It really isn't rocket science. Please be considerate of other forumites.

Please mark all spoilers very clearly as to their type, so that everyone will know what kind of text is within the box before they click on it.

(Tapatalk users, beware: Anything within a spoiler box will show up as normal text.)

Good to see some fantasy on tv with some cash behind it. It's got all the makings of a top notch tv show I just hope the writing doesn't become an after thought.

Never read the books it's based on but I've heard great thinks about the story from a friend at work. Plus with HBO involved the production values should be fantastic.

Read all the books (that have been published so far) and they're fantastic - although incredibly complex at times! Really looking forward to it and it'll be interesting to see how closely it follows the books. If it's similar, expect a lot of twists.

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to this. I've read the first 3 books (4 if you count the both parts of 2) and am really interested to see how it pans out. They certainly seem to have the look right, from what I can see in the trailer anyway. Can't wait to see what they're going to do with certain characters.

As Nathanbrains says, the books are complex so I hope I can keep up with it week on week.

Started reading the first book a few days ago. Really good so far, though I've not gotten too far yet. Just got the bit where
Bran gets shoved from the tower by the Queen and some dude (don't know who yet)

Much intrigue!

I've read all the books too, and I can tell you that if the series follows them faithfully (within reason) - and by all accounts it does - we are in for a treat.

Really looking forward to peoples' reactions that havn't read the book. This isn't your common or garden fantasy. I'd say it's more like The Sopranos than Lord of the Rings.

Also, with regards to this (no future book spoilers, just being careful - try to finish the book before the show starts, because they're going to reveal who the man is at the end of the first episode, I believe. Anyway, I was pretty shocked when it was revealed, and don't want you to miss out on this!

I thought it was obvious who it was when I read it.

EDIT - Yep, it clearly tells you twice who he is.

It doesn't clearly tell you, no. It gives a slight description which, being one of the opening chapters of the book and you not being familiar with the characters at all, means you'll very easily miss who it is. As I did.

Only read the first book a couple of weeks back and thought it was very good. Would be reading the rest now but my housemate let someone else borrow them  :fp:

Looks like it has been very well casted so I'm definately looking forward to it.

I'm all excited for this one too. In fact it's getting to the stage where I have to turn away from the TV everytime something for Sky Atlantic is advertised as it all looks so good and I don't have time to watch them all!

I watched a trailer for this a few weeks ago and wasn't too interested. It does have Sean Bean though so I might give the pilot a watch at some point.

Haven't read the books either but GOT does look fantastic going by the trailers. The inclusion of Sean Bean in the cast is just
