This show has fallen off a cliff.
Into a pit of amazeballs imo. No more Ayra cleaning a floor for nine hours.
What don't you like out of interest?
Wrote a long (ep6 spoiler free) post but somehow managed to lose it by being logged out.
Basically.
Pacing - aside from the stupid unlocking of fast travel the constant hoping of characters between locations has led to a downplaying of the tension of their actions. For example Davos and Tyrion's jolly to Kings landing and back again in a single episode. Previously this would of taken a couple of episodes and though we wouldn't of seen much of the journey, the passage of time would make the event seem more important. Tyrion went back to Kings landing ffs, behind enemy lines. If it was that easy for him to sneak back in why not send in assassin and be done with it. By moving so quickly, characters haven't had time to develop and thus we aren't invested. Dickon and his dad getting burned alive had no emotional impact as we'd only known them 2 minutes and hadn't become invested. Oberyn by comparison got near enough a whole season and his death had real impact and felt like a proper moment in the greater story.
Tension - Too many characters with plot armour and invulnerable saves. Danny attack on the loot train, while breathtaking visually felt entirely hollow as it was obvious nobody important would be killed off. The cut to black of Jamie drowning entirely failed as we knew he couldn't die and what makes it worse was how they saved him next episode, the suspension in disbelief for me was too great. In plate armour, even with help he sinks like a stone let alone magically resurfaces a mile away completely safe. Nobody of value has been killed off this season so far, all dead characters had either served their purpose and had nowhere to go (Olena) or was killed for fans service (sand snakes were atrocious)
To me it feels like its gone from being serious character driven show (as serious as a show with magic and dragons could be anyway) to a marvel superhero film. All low stakes, high spectacle at the expense of any sort of character development.
Episode 6 simply magnifies my issues 10 fold. Honestly it was wank.
