I'm currently on Tesco DVD rental service for renting DVDs and games at the moment on a service which allows you 1 DVD at your house but you can change the DVD as much as you like. They advise you to have at least ten games on your list to at least what you want but with that much choice I always put filler ones which to be honest with you I would much rather not have. Are there any DVD rental sites which are reliable and guarantee you to have a rental on say God Of War 3?

Love Film are often pretty good, they can tell me I 'should' have loads of titles on my list but strawberry float 'em, I just put the new release down and force their hand, let some other sucker get the old releases who's used them as 'filler' for his list.

Yeah I would say Lovefilm are pretty good. Of the last three games I've had from them two were just released (God of War 3 and Final Fantasy 13), and my next one which they sent today is Just Cause 2 which only just came out too. So they've been pretty good sending big games. My advice would be to send back a game the day before a new release as that tends to give you a good chance of getting the new release first.

I'm with Swapgame and despite being tempted by Lovefilm they've been so good I've stayed with them. This is in part due to the customer service being fantastic. The 2 problems I've had (missing game, card not being accepted) have been rectified within about 2 hours.

But also because I really like the way their new rental system works. You have 3 selection types, one of which is 'Bullseye'. They take a little longer (max 4-5 days, although I've had games sent out next day) to send you the disk but they guarantee you one of the top 3 on your list (your list must be a minimum of 5). There's also 'Express' where they always send you a game next day but it can be any off a list of 15, and 'Best of Both' which is more of a traditional service.

So at the moment I've got God of War 3, Heavy Rain and Just Cause 2 as my top three and I know next week I'll get one of them in the post. Much better than keeping a list full of things you only half want I reckon. You can change between rental types at any time.

You can also choose to keep the game you're renting, and they send you the new box and manual through the post. For example I just sent back Bayonetta but could have kept it for £17.30, which is a really good price when you know the disk works and the box etc is mint. Cheaper and better than preowned IMO, and a good try before you buy scheme if nothing else.

The other thing that's nice is that you can 'pause' your membership. So if you send your games back you can stop payments and then restart renting at any time just by clicking a button on your account page, so there's no hassle over cancelling.

SwapGame sounds amazing. I used a three month LoveFilm trial to try out their game rental service a while back, but I think they only managed to ship me a new release priority rental twice in that time, usually leaving me with some filler I'd crammed into my list. That Bullseye option, combined with the chance to buy your rentals outright makes them sound perfect.

Tesco are Lovefilm. Its the same company.

And yeah, if you only want the latest games, just stick those on there. They might well send you an email, but they won't do anything about it.

Granted you might have to wait a little longer for your game (though I never have), but you'll always get what you want.

Example, I decided I only really wanted to play Metro 2033, so I took all the other games off my list (onto a second list actually) and just left Metro on there. Two days later and they sent it out.

Had three seperate Lovefilm trials, never once did they send me out a new release even when that's all there was on it. Bollocks. Glad it was free, may give swapgame a go.

Swapgame aren't that great. I reopened my account about a month ago, after sorting out my list I waited a week before anything was sent out, that game went back and I got the confirmation of return last Tuesday and am still waiting for another game to be sent out. My list has 10 games in it with at least 4 that are pretty old.

I'm in the process of trying swapgame, so will report back in due course.

As I've already missed Mass Effect 2, Just Cause 2, Aliens vs Predator and Bioshock there's a few games I need to catch up on already. So I'm not too fussed about Day 1 releases, my theory being if it's something I really want (Red Dead Redemption) I'll pre-order it and use my rental to play those games I am likely to play/trade quickly.

I used to be with Swap Game but I cancelled my account after many of the disks which I had sent through the post never got to their destination. I'm now with Boomerang (www.boomerangrentals.co.uk) and they have a similar system to what SG are doing now. I had God of War 3 and Picross 3D as my top 2 choices and I received P3D the minute it was released and GOW3 2 days later.

I had one disk go missing with Swapgame but they sent out a new one straight away, Surely this is a Royal Mail issue though, regardless of rental service?

Still, I haven't heard of Boomerang before - looks really good. Their website is certainly nicer than Swapgame's! How does the priority service work then? I notice you pay a little more for it.

I've been using Swapgame for about 6 years now and never ever had an issue with them (and when games never reached or never arrived, I emailed them and the issue was sorted within 24hrs)

Then again, I've never been one to expect to get a new game very soon anyway. What with everyone else using the service expecting to get them, it's not often it happens tbh; though give it a few weeks and they become less popular it gets more frequant to get recent releases

Lovefilm on the other hand, I never seem to get anything that's on my top priority list and tend to find them sending things on my low priority list

Depending on your account option it can take 4-5 days for them to send you out your game. It's pretty clear on that. You can speed up the selection time, but only if you're less picky on the game choice. It's one reason I always use the two game at a time option, so I'm playing one game while waiting for the next.

Companies do have different packages. The basic ones are usually something like:

£10, rent as many games as you like - 1 disk at a time.
£15, rent as much as you like - 2 disks at a time.

You can keep the games as long as you want (providing you're still subscribed of course).

So those are monthly payments, right?
