But, in reality...

- Zero cost savings reach the consumer
- "Test play our new release please; we'll patch it as you go"
- Downloads and updates constantly
- Your ~~purchase~~ license lasts until that console is no longer supported. Yeah, soz, we're closing the eShop down

This is why I will never be on board with digital only.

On PC it's fine because you just sail the seas if a company is being a dick or withdraws something from sale.

But the only real option for consoles is emulation, which for modern days systems is often years away.

If Sony could somehow always guarantee I'd have access to my games (or at least the rom) if they somehow went out of business or stopped supporting a console, I'd by all my games digitally.

This is the reason. There is one storefront, they own it and have zero competition. So prices are kept high.

Next year has switch 2 and PS5 slim/pro. So that'll give them a bit of a boost. No idea how they make a profit with over thalf their shop being filled with funkos, generic toys and board games.

My local GAME probably only dedicates about half of its shelves to video games now, so there's an argument to say it's already over.

That was my experience of checking the PC shelf in game post 2006ish.

The halcyon days of just walking into a store and buying something like, I don't know, Silent Hunter III or the Battlefield 1942: Road to Rome expansion pack. :cry:

It was nice because you would get a code in a box to redeem on Steam or EA Origin.

I think the lack of resellable codes in boxes is what's making the transition so much bumpier for the console platforms. Ironically it's what the Xbox One wanted to do at launch.

No shop within a few miles of my home sells games... and I live in a busy London suburb!

Tesco and Morrisons have both stopped selling games (they didn't have many, anyway) and the nearest GAME store closed. There isn't, to my knowledge, anywhere else. To be fair, I've bought 99% of my physical game purchases from online retailers for the past twelve or so years, anyway.

Oh, I'd say that CEX isn't even their competition. Be More Geek and Toy Entertainer for the Pop Vinyls will be seen as the people to compete against since it's all in that blue quadrant.

GAME actually advertised for staff for a concession stand in the South Shields Sports Direct Store a few months back, could have walked into it given my Grainger Games experience but the hours and pay just wasn't worth it.

How do you feel about CeX stocking PC games now?

I'm sure you're going to go and buy every single game again for £1 as soon as you purchase a disk reading laser peripheral.

I always forgot about be more geek. Also HMV have a full section which is much like game, funkos, toys, Japanese and American sweets and obscure tat.

I miss Electronics Boutique, 10 day return policy, buy the game and don't like it, return it within 10 days for something else. Surprisingly it was massively abused.

Yeah I liked EB, GameStation was a good store as well thanks to the retro section

Boots and WH Smith were both great for games back in the 80s! I always used to enjoy checking out the budget game stands in newsagents, too!

Woolworths had a great games section, crazy to think we might have zero retail presence for Video Games in a couple of years.

Game had that 10 day policy at one point to. I absolutely abused the hell out of it.

I noticed in Newcastle that Sports Direct are moving across the street in Northumberland Street and there's going to be a Game concession stand in there.

Hasn't been confirmed but I would not be shocked if Game in Eldon square closes and just operate in the new SD
