Game's whole retail model is utterly antiquated; from their loyalty scheme, returns policy, store layout, gutting new products and sticking them in a drawer, to the experience they offer customers when they walk through the door, they're seemingly stuck in a time that no longer exists for high-street retail - and they'r not the only ones. Sure there are lots of factors that have seen some of the most popular high streets chains close over the course of the last few years, but stroll into the likes of Debenhams, Next and (when it was open) BHS and it's like going back 20-30 years. They simply haven't moved with the times which has played as much a part of their demise as anything else.

Never mind common sense, most stores seem to put their meaningless "policies" above consumer protection law and will argue it into the ground. When you question them with specific reference to your rights they normally have no idea what you're talking about but try to shut you down anyway.

Had some horrible gooseberry fool with EDF energy the other day so in general companies try to get away with a whole host of unfair practices even when they know if a complaint is referred to an ombudsman or trading standards or a court they will probably lose. And that's often the real reason they'll try to shut you down. How it doesn't seem to matter how this reflects so negatively on a company's reputation I have no idea.

Not sure of any customer service scandals in gaming recently other then GAME's multiple charging debacle and other preorder strawberry float ups but you go in review sites and surprise surprise, bad service is not only your experience (unrelated of course but EDF currently have a trustpilot score of 1.8 out of 10 across 1000 reviews )

At least with it being a cartridge it's less likely to be damaged then s disc.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Haven't set foot in a bricks and mortar place selling games for years now. I might drop by GAME one of these days out of morbid curiosity.

The problem game have for me is that even if they somehow manage to be the cheapest place to buy games I'm not going to as the shops themselves are universally gooseberry fool and I seriously can't be bothered to make any effort to visit them. It's everything I despise about shopping and I'm being overcharged and asked about extra's I don't want.

Game seem wholly unaware that gaming isn't just nerdy kids with zero standards any more and a shop needs to be at least slightly appealing for me to go in.

I went into GAME for the first time in a while and they now have these free magazines, it must be quite a new thing because this is issue 1, it seems pretty good and if anyone trades games in then there is a voucher inside for an extra £1 on every game

Yeah but they give you a crappy Union Jack as well so that's quite off-putting.

I preordered a game in there last Sunday and was told to come pick it up on Tuesday, which I asked if it's definitely Tuesday and was told it was again. Game didn't come out till Wednesday. Can't even get their gooseberry fool right on a release date a few days before release.
