I've never understood why GAME are more expensive than even other high street retailers, yet always seem to be the one that manages to survive whilst others close down.

In fairness Monster Hunter GU was £5 cheaper than at Sainsburys or my local indie so I bought it from GAME

Oddly, there was indie game store on same street as GAME...

Went in both to see what prices for Prey (latest one) is like...

£13 pre-owned at game, not bad.

Then £20 which I assume is also pre-owned at GForce...

I just went for shopto because new copy for £9.95

Sev, Have you actually ordered it from ShopTo yet? Only asking cos' Prey Deluxe Edition (i.e. inc the new DLC) is included in the "Buy 2 get 70% off" offer in the PS Store at the mo...

Edit: Then again, £9.95 is a deece price anyway :-) .

See I would just pay the £13 and not have to wait on the post.

I actually bought something in Game the other day! Hitman on PS4. First time I've bought there in ages - it was reasonably priced, against Amazon anyway - and I had a couple of quid on the rewards app from ages ago.

I've done my bit for the high street. I'm sure that will save them.

Cheltenham branch is to close just before or after Christmas. To Let sign went up about a month back. According to the staff Twitter feed other stores across the country are to suffer the same fate.

I also read on MCV that GAME have taken quite a hit on their preowned sales - the bread and butter of the business. CEO, Martyn Gibbs, put it down to a lack of new releases being traded in due to gamers holding on to their games through extended purchases (microtransactions, dlc etc) and digital game buying.

The fact their pre-owned stuff is still only a couple of quid cheaper, if not equal to or more expensive than, the new copy probably doesn't help either.

I suspect that has had as much an impact as anything, but GAME's executives have deluded themselves over the years into believing that they offer good value for money. Remember, this is a company that still believes a reward card that gives you £2 for every £100 spent represents the pinnacle of good value whilst simultaneously ignoring the fact that all their games can be bought £5-10 less pretty much everywhere else.

Every time someone posts in this thread I hope that it's because they're doing a repeat of their 'trade in four games and get an extra tenner' deal again. Could do with clearing out another bag full of absolute shite.

Remember the 'trade in any 4 games and get Fifa Street for 99p'?

I was working at GAME then. That week or so was horrendous. The skip fulls of dog-eared tat we had to sort through.

It won't be long before GAME are just Sports Direct concessions selling little more than sports games like Fifa and NBA and big names like CoD and Battlefield.

That seems to be the plan, (along with GAME's eSports division), and only in towns & cities where there's any kind of demand for it and where Mike Ashley can do away with properties that come with ludicrous rent/rates, like in Cheltenham. (He's already closed the Sports Direct here).

I don't remember that particular deal, but the last time they did the offer I mentioned, I brought them a bag full of 80 games and made off with over £500 in credit.

Sooner than expected then. Feel sorry for the staff, what with Christmas around the corner.

Did shopping at game today and got four games for less than £40, and diablo 3 was only £5 dearer than Amazon (eternal) so not too bad.

I still like 3 for 2 pre-owned tbh, it can lead to good bargains
