This. A lot of it was also due to unrest in the middle east which caused a knock on effect on bookings from Russia and France.

You also have to hope that the economy turns sharpish so people can still afford holidays.

Value of my shares has gone up by about £18 so far. Current share price is 8.1p and I'm now in profit 8-)

If you're wanting to buy shares look at large companies which pay substantial dividends.

I really don't understand people who by digital games. You do realise you're basically only paying for a license? If that company goes out of business or can't host the game for legal reasons. Say goodbye to your game.

I will ALWAYS buy physical copies of £40 games

For now. What about in 5-10 years time? Physical media will die eventually and if it does survive it won't be enough to keep a specialist national chain open.

If and when digital distribution becomes the norm I'd expect consumer law to change to cover things like access to content from defunct companies. In reality, with Steam and iTunes so popular they should be working on it now.

I'd like Game to stay open just because I've been through redundancy when a chain of stores has collapsed and it's not nice at all. Game are not helping themselves by having so many duplicate stores that are sometimes within sight of each other.
If they could just shut the duplicate stores while keeping as many of the staff as they can it would surely help save them a small fortune.

Why would they? It only benefits the consumer. No one else.

Do you really think consumer law should not be applied to digital downloads and that companies like steam should be able to do whatever the heck they like? Plenty of laws only affect the consumer and they force companies to give decent service with reasonable guarantees.

Legislation will always trail behind whatever the latest trends in the market are. Hell, it's still illegal for you to rip your CDs to your PC here in the UK.

It won't be until physical media is stone dead that any consumer law is actually implemented to secure people's digital purchases.

Valve have said in the past that they'd ensure there was some way to get to your games should the company go bust or something. Even so, you can back up your entire collection of downloaded Steam games by simply copying one folder onto a different drive.

Legally you're only buying a license no matter what format you buy your games on. The only difference is that if you lose, or break a physical copy, you say goodbye to your game. Games bought on Steam can just be downloaded again if you manage to lose your old install and any backups you may have made.

GOG.com is even better in that regard. Not only can you redownload your stuff as much as you like, but the downloads are completely DRM free and don't require a launcher to run. There's literally no drawback unless you really like having an official box sitting on your shelf.

4% off on consoles may almost be worth it if you're planning to buy a Switch and Scorpio this year but that's not exactly going to be a lot of people.
Let's assume the Scorpio is £400 and the Switch £280 that's a £27.20 saving so nope, it's still a pile of shite.

I honestly wonder if they know something we don't: ie that the business is strawberry floated, and this is one last desperate attempt to get some non-refundable cash from people before the inevitable happens.

My loyalty card for Game already says "Elite" on it, does that mean I get these benefits for free?

(It's a gamestation elite card that got transferred over to game in the buyout  )

I know this may sound crazy but I do think Game could be saved if they changed and became more like a book store and just cut out pandering to scruffy teens. If they had a nice area where you could have a coffee a try a game before you buy and just made the atmosphere more professional overall it would see more customers as more gamers are now older and the current store layout just doesn't attract them.
If I won the lottery I'd see if I could try it at one store and see if my theory works or not as I think a game store with a bit of class could work.
