The Nintendo GameCube often abbreviated as GCN, is Nintendo's fourth home video game console and is part of the sixth generation console era. The hardware system is the most compact, and second-cheapest after Sega's Dreamcast, of the sixth generation. It is the successor to the Nintendo 64 and predecessor to Nintendo's Wii. The GameCube sold 21.74 million units worldwide.

In my Opinion the last great Nintendo home console and one of the most under rated consoles of all time the gamecube features a fantastic selection of games that were probably missed by many but should find the time to go back and try titles including:

SUPER MARIO SUNSHINE

LoZ: WIND WAKER

CHIBI ROBO

And those 3 are just the start there are lots of great games available both exclusive and multi platform I still play the GC to this day any of you guys still play the GC? what are your memories of the cube? favourite game?

I bought one back in 2004 for the MGS1 remake alone - I honestly don't regret my purchase as it had a good catalogue of exclusives at the time. My brother enjoyed Sunshine, whilst I later enjoyed Resi 4. :)

And even now when I want to play the Wii, I use the GCN controller.

Metroid Prime and Monkey Ball defined the machine for me.

Not SMB2 though, that bloody Launchers level made me frisbee the disc across the room and break it!

Great console, I picked a Japanese NTSC/ US switched console for around £350 with Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3, which I absolutely loved.

Having an import mahcine meant I got Super Mario Sunshine early and when it came I was so excited, it was the one game I wanted ever since I finisher SM64.

Zelda WW followed and that was also brilliant. I remember hooking the Gameboy Advance up and using the Tingle Tuner. The mini quests on Windfall Island really elevated this game and if it had a few more dungeons it would have surpassed Ocarina of Time imo.

I've probably spent more time and money on the Gamecube than any other games console. I loved almost every minute of it. Favourites would include: Skies of Arcadia Legends, Eternal Darkness, Rogue Leader, TWW, F-Zero GX, Warioware, Double Dash!!, Tales of Symphonia, Paper Mario 2, Melee, Metroid Prime 1 & 2, Pikmin 1 & 2, Tony Hawks 3 & 4, MGS, TS2, Soul Calibur II, Fire Emblem, Mario Power Tennis, Harvest Moon, Monkey Ball, Luigi's Mansion, Sonic Mega Collection...

Adored this thing! Luigi's Mansion is still my favourite game on the console. I cannot describe just how much I loved that experience.

Out of all the consoles I've owned, this was my least favourite and the biggest disappointment. I was really hyped up about the launch, and couldn't believe my eyes at the sight of Rogue Leader. The first game I got with it was Wind Waker, and at that time it was the most fun I'd had with a game in ages. Smash Bros, Rogue Leader and Monkey Ball followed, but then Super Mario Sunshine was a disappointment, F-Zero GX didn't grab me and nothing else really came close to Wind Waker for me.

Admittedly I didn't try every game available, including some of the high profile ones, but my overall experience of it was one of disappointment.

Yeah, I loved it but could never beat the final Boss!

I have got to rebuy a PAL copy as I sold my NTSC Gamecube and games a while back.

It's worth it--I really thought the whole thing was delightful!

I know it's not a system exclusive but for me Resident Evil 4 is the best game on the Gamecube. Just brilliant!

As for exclusives probably a toss up between Resident Evil remake and Wind Waker. Oh, and does the Zelda collection disc count? ;)

A cracking console that will be highly regarded in years to come, much like the DC.

Anyway - loads of obvious great games - so I will stick to a couple of fav's.

Wave Race Blue Storm - I loved the N64 version so much, and whilst being initially dissapointed as it handled so differently and the graphics were average - I ended up loving it in the end.

Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour - Best golfing game I have ever played. Waluigi has best celebration ever.

Four Swords, in co-op and ZELDA strawberry floating DEATHMATCH modes!

It's geniunely breathtaking how well they adapted what was fundamentally intended to be a single player experience into a game to match Bomberman in terms of sheer multiplayer longevity. It surprises me that doesn't seem to be any footage of the battle mode on Youtube, given how bloody brilliant that mode is.

Crystal Chronicles should have been the start of something truly special as well.

The gamecube will always be my most loved console. It was the first console I owned while working, which meant I was able to afford every major game during its lifespan and I feel like I was there from its birth to its untimely death in 2006. On last count I had about 65 games for it.

Remember the launch day as I was 16 and was doing my GCSE’s at the time and while everyone was stressing out about the exams I only had one thing on my mind that Friday and that was praying the gamecube and Rogue Squadron had arrived. At the time Rogue Squadron was stunning.

Could go on all day about favourite games but only going to mention a few that haven’t been brought up yet.

Smash Bros Melee: Spent hundreds of hours on this and still play it to this day with friends as its gameplay mechanics are far supplier to Brawls which although the better package has much slower and shallow combat.

Viewtifull Joe1&2: Showed that the neglected style of 2d gaming was far from dead and that it had a place in the modern gaming world.

Something that Capcom continues to prove to this day.

Definitely one of my favourite machines ever.

I bought mine in late 2003 after the price drop to £80, and got Mario Sunshine free with the system. At the time I believed it to be the first Nintendo console I actually bought, but I later learned that the NES I used to play at my Gran's house was actually mine and my brother's when I was too young to remember it actually being in our house.

The hardware itself was great - while it didn't look like your conventional games console, I got a black one and it was pretty sleek looking, ran really quiet and had that classic Nintendo build quality. The orange light was sexy too. I also really liked the controller, as coming from the PS2 to the GC pad it felt really awesome to have a good analogue stick (not that I have any major issue with the DS sticks but the GC one was much more precise). And I loved the big green 'A' button.

As for games, I ended up owning 23 for the system, and I wouldn't part with any of them (well maybe Donkey Konga but I only paid £5 for it and the Bongos). Highlights included Wind Waker (probably my favourite Zelda and the first I finished), Zelda Collector's Edition, Smash Bros Melee, Resi 4, Paper Mario 2, REmake and Metal Gear Solid:The Twin Snakes. Oh and Rogue Leader was immense too - as a big Star Wars fan I had the biggest grin on my face playing the Death Star run for the first time with those (at the time) amazing graphics and sound.

All in all a great machine, despite Nintendo killing it off prematurely in terms of their support for the machine. While I don't see myself hunting down any more games for it, I still play the games I have now and again on my Wii.

EDIT - One other thing I wanted to mention - I absolutely loved the music which played when navigating the system menu. Really relaxing, ambient music. It was great.

I loved Wave Race too. Once you got used to the controls there was a surprising amount of subtlety in them, which only made it more rewarding when you nailed them.

On the whole a great console, but I do feel I missed out on a lot of the games as I concentrated on the PS2 during the middle stages of the Gamecube life. I never played or completed games like Pikmin, Pikmin 2, Super Smash Bros Melee and loads of other popular games. I was very impressed with Zelda WW and Super Mario Sunshine though, more than their sequels on the Wii anyway, but Mario Kart DD definately fell short of expectations.

The last Nintendo console in my eyes.

Loved the Gamecube. Picked mine up on launch with Super Monkey Ball and Luigi's Mansion and was blown away by both.

I wish that the machine was better supported but it did give us so many great games. My top ten would be as follows:

1. Zelda Twilight Princess
2. Pikmin 2
3. Resident Evil 4
4. Skies Of Arcadia Legends
5. Zelda Wind Waker
6. Donkey Kong Jungle Beat
7. Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door
8. Phantasy Star Online Episode III C.A.R.D Revolution
9. Phantasy Star Online Episode I&II
10. Super Monkey Ball
