I loved the adrenaline rush that followed after beating the toughest bosses, though. That's something Prime 2 offered that I didn't often get in other Gamecube titles, which I think really influenced my enjoyment of the game. (That said, there's nothing worse than that criminal sense of injustice that follows when you make one wrong move, and die seconds before the boss succumbs. For battles that had several parts to them, this was a disaster.)

The imbalance in the strength of each boss made the game less consistent than the original. The first game was better measured, I'd say--in terms of difficulty, especially.

If I'm being honest, if the Dreamcast had survived I probably wouldn't have bought a Gamecube when I did and would have waited until towards the end of it's lifespan. Of the four consoles last generation it is the one I've spent least money on and takes joint third place with the Xbox. All that said the few games I did buy for it were brilliant and I've had more than my moneys worth from the system. I'm probably one of the few 'Cube owners who only have one first-party game for the console.

I'm very glad that the Wii has full back-compatability with the cube, a very good idea from nintendo.

Anywho, in no particular order I still have:

Killer7
P.N.03
Ikaruga
Wind Waker with bonus disc
F-Zero GX
Chibi-Robo

I would have gotten Viewtiful Joe, but the PS2 version had Dante, so that was the obvious choice i'm afraid.

It's not perfect. It's a real shame that you can't save GC saves to the internal flash.

You know, I honestly think that may have done the series more harm than good. I wonder how many people got VJ to play as Dante, rather than Joe?

Worth it for the Death Star and Hoth levels alone.

You eventually finished it?! Well done that man. :o

I always remember you talking on the old GR about how stumped you were by the Spider Guardian, Chykka and Boost Guardian et al.

The Sanctuary Fortress was pure class, however the middle one which housed Chykka, Torvus Bog, I did not like. Things got a little too complicated at points for me and I seemed to stumble around for a long time before finally wandering into the place I was looking for. The first temple and opening stages were pretty good but couldn't match the genius of the original in any capacity.

That Boost Ball Guardian was a right t*** especially when it did hit you with the boost, took off loads of health that one annoyed me the most. They were all good battles though.I really liked the end boss, the one that jumped around with a swarm of bats around it,one hell of a fight that one.

Dam, is there a boss mode on that game? I really want to go back now.

You are entitled to nothing!

Damn straight. 8-)

The Gamecube was easily one of my favourite consoles of all time, I've so many good memories of it. Got it for Christmas in 2002, I believe, along with Sunshine, Resident Evil & Smash Bros.

My top ten games would probably be:

1) Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
2) Metroid Prime
3) Resident Evil 4
4) Wind Waker
5) Super Mario Sunshine
6) Resident Evil
7) Timesplitters 2
8) Smash Bros. Melee
9) Pikmin
10) F-Zero GX

Something like that. Honourable mentions go to Mario Kart, Soul Calibur, Luigi's Mansion, Timesplitters: Future Perfect and Resi 0.

I've still got a few games I need to play on the 'Cube, actually. I picked up Beyond Good & Evil a while ago because of it's rareity, but never got round to playing it.

I've still got Baten Kaitos Origins on my shelf, waiting to be finished. I've never got around to starting either Metroid Prime either, so I'll wait for the update. Killer 7, too.

Probably my favourite console, particularly with games like Baten Kaitos, ToS, Chibi Robo, Luigi's Mansion, Fire Emblem, WW, Sunshine, Papes 2, and the Pikmin games.

This is now your number one priority. One of the best games ever.

I've never finished it either. Although I'm waiting for the Wii version to get back into it due to the apparently improved controls.

My favourite ever console. I doubt anything will ever come close. The Thousand Year Door, The Wind Waker, Animal Crossing, Sunshine, XIII, Pikmin 2, Metroid Prime, Double Dash!!, Power Tennis, TimeSplitters 2, 1080 Avalanche, F-Zero GX, Soul Calibur 2, Twilight Princess, Super Monkey Ball 2 and many more... so many hours of my life well spent. I think I'm lucky that the GC years ended as I started uni as I'd have missed out on so many games. Maybe it's because I'm not a huge FPS fan or maybe I've just gotten bored of games in general, but I don't think I'll ever be as big a games fan as I was during the GC era, and for that I think it'll forever hold the top spot for me.

Did anyone else take a (n almost perverse) pleasure in the GC's failures? Not in that I enjoyed seeing the console suffer - far from it - but there was a real sense of pride in backing the underdog, especially when I knew* that it was superior to the far more popular competition in every way that mattered.

Loved it.

*Read: believed. Still do! 8-)

Had a Gamecube for a while myself, there were some great games on it like:

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle
Metroid Prime
F-Zero GX

Ended up trading it for an XBOX, although I wished I had bought more games for the GC.

My reason: To get Jirachi

It's shallow but I enjoyed it for some strange reason.
