You're right. Too much crapola from all sides, rarely constructive. Everyone believing they are right, people more consumed with twitter politics than playing games.

It would be good though if she did actually debate her thoughts rather than just state her opinion and that's it without taking other peoples opinions in further videos (and not from the ones who just hurl abuse) By doing what she has she is basically acting like a giant forum troll, Just stating her opinion and then avoiding all responses is pretty crap. For instance people like Jim Sterling will state his opinion heavily and many might not agree but he is always up for the debate, to defend his opinions and his thoughts. To create videos like she has though without having comments and without having a proper debate with who she is attacking i think has basically just riled up people even more. That though doesn't justify the abuse she has taken and i don't agree iwth how a lot of people act on the internet but hell it's only videogames . It's just the way she has handled everything is off , i'm not sure if it's been intentional or just a bit stupid.

She is not obliged to debate. She is paid money to make videos about things she perceives to be the case, true or no.

I'm sure if she was asked to debate by someone reasonable and not an opportunistic bullshit merchant she'd consider it.

Who's paying her then? Anyway i agree in the equality it should be around although i'd state that gaming isn't the only area of media or many other things that has no decent equality but if she and many others want to raise concerns like she has then debating and discussing is always good to have.

She had a kickstarter, that's what kicked off all the abuse she (sarkeesian) got before the whole gamergate thing kicked off.

Hell the abuse appears to be the main cause for her getting so much money as it drew shitloads of attention and sympathy to her

If Sarkeesian took up that Milo banana split's offer she'd be validating him and the extremist bowel movement he's appointed himself champion of.

She doesn't have to or need to debate with anyone who disagrees with her. As far as I see it what she is doing is basically a video version of an academic paper where like an author she doing research and stating her own findings while using referenced sources to show that many of the concepts she is discussing already existed previously. It's pretty standard stuff as far as academic literature goes. There are some academics who argue against the theories of others in their own papers but for the most part these are one way messages, the reader reads and then decides if they agree or disagree with the writer.
All the people who are saying she needs to do rebuttals and have debates and justify herself are missing the point of what it is she is doing.

It would play out like this:

I believe GamerGate has been a powerful force for good, despite some rough edges.

What a load of utter bollocks.

I like how the whole debate over ethics in games journalism has been going on for at least 20 years (spoilered for size and truth)

Yet some small flash indie side-project made by a woman was the straw that broke the camel's back, making all of these concerned citizens sit up and yell "WE HATE WOMEN, ALSO MUUUHHHHH ETHICS!"

I have no idea who Matt Binder is, but funnily it's the only place to find those Milo tweets as he's deleted them. A sign of sure-fire integrity to be sure.

I would lay even odds on said tweets being a victim of Twitters new shadowbanning system, since I found that one on his timeline easily enough.

Could have just been a huge technical snafu, of course. Twitter isn't exactly forthcoming about this stuff.

I like this vid, there seems to be some common sense here. It's a hard thing to come by on the internet, i also have no idea who these people are online that do these things but if they hassle people i bet it's not just female gamers.

I had loads of gooseberry fool thrown at me online. Especially on this forum and DOTA 2 but I never had people just repeatedly send me PM's about how they want to rape me. Although I think it might be a better idea to deal with harassment for everyone rather than focus just on women.
