So expect Eurogamer to become even shitter as they turn it into a platform to promote their events.

I think history tells us where this this will ultimately end up long term. It'll be a gradual decline and phasing out of certain things, but then I think Eurogamer has been declining in terms of quality anyway (not including Digital Foundry). It's the same principle as, say, GAME/EB/Gamestation/Gameplay or Future Publishing/Dennis Publishing/Computec Media or various other organisations that have had takeovers or aspects sold off. Nothing stays the same, sometimes even with the best intentions in the world.

Eventually they'll get bought by Disney like everything else.

I like Eurogamer, I often find myself aligning with their reviews :(

Most worrying for me is that RPS recently joined Gamer Network. Eurogamer will be fine, but RPS I'm not so sure about.

It is a shame, as apart from some of their articles and the cess-pit that is their comments sections, I do actually quite like their reviews and news. Along with RPS they're the only online "British" games outlet I can think of, so to see them disappear would be big loss. Everything else is too US-Centric for my tastes.

Yeah pretty much. The only other one really was Videogamer and that basically seems like it's running on fumes since Jim, Burns, Dave and Miller left.

Keep it the same.

TBH I don't really visit videogame sites any more, just mainly use forums and YouTube now. They're going the way of gaming mags for me.

Walker can get strawberry floated, he spends all that time saying that RPS' mission statement is being independent, that the dodgy ads and supporter programmer are there to keep them independent and then he sells out to the first good offer anyway.

At least almost all of the decent writers have already left for other stuff.

Amazingly, the RPS Supporter programme is still running. On a website owned by one of the largest games media companies on the planet.

HMM.

They still have some decent articles but it feels like the proper quality reads are getting fewer and further between, while the absolutely awful gaming deals and referral posts keep getting more frequent. At least they got rid of the "I'm a bad person" text in their pop-ups.

Shame, although the quality of both Eurogamer and RPS had been declining for quite a while anyway. RPS in particular is a shadow of it's former self.

Did they? I eventually submitted and turned adblock off on their domain but strawberry float me that thing was utterly infuriating.

And yes, it's nowhere near as good as it used to be. I particularly miss the game diary features. The latest one I remember is an Elite Dangerous one that ran for two posts and was never continued.

Although it's's still one of the better sites out there for content, for decent longreads I'd direct everyone to http://waypoint.vice.com (although, annoyingly, even they seem to be morphing into a more general media site).

I've gotten into so many twitter trists with the dude he's going to start thinking I'm coming on to him.

User shaming? Yeah nice, that's a real black art of web design and one of the most effective ways to piss your audience off and never come back.

The new look Eurogamer is very...white.

Image

Sorry, excuse me...I meant to say Dulux off white.

One thing I like about our website is that there's a lot of grey. Not because it's overly sexy, but because it's incredibly easy on the eyes.

Yeah there's something a bit "off" looking about the site now.

I'll need to see it on my own PC as I don't know if the filtering at work is changing how it displays, but I'm not sure I'm a fan.

I'm forcing myself to think "hey, it's new, give it time..." but, yeah, I'm not totes convinced at this stage. I'm unsure about presenting the news items with no pictures and I'm not a fan of the trend to give prominence to "popular stories". The clean, simple look of the Eurogamer logo (a style which I'm normally pretty fond of) seems to almost fade away in comparison to the garish advertising banners.
