I can't play certain games when its late at night and its too spooky. I actually start to cack myself. I dont know whether I have an active imagination or if im just mental but I do get goosebumps and have to put the TV on to calm myself down.

Recently the've been:

Deadspace:Cant play it at night anymore, its scaryness is literally keeping me away from this game and for the most part I love it. I dont take to kindly to activley participating in something akin to event horizon!
I play it for about 20mins at most, during the day.

Fallout3: Stop laughing at the back, I only VERY recently got into this after watching it gather dust on my shelf. Superb game but why are the vaults so feckin scary? I was recently in Vault 92....where they went insane....

Left4Dead: I don't know how they do it but I always have a low sense of dread and fear creeping through the streets and buildings along with my friends. It heightens unbearably when I get broken off from the group, often limping trying to keep up, voice audibly quivering when saying "I think I hear a wi-wi-wi-witch".

Any games you own that are ACTUALLY too scary to 'enjoy'?

Doom scares me still.

Maybe you should play with the TV on instead.

Ah, this is a topic that warms the cockles of my heart. 8-) I am such a huge wuss with horror survival games - everything from Resident Evil to Dead Space and back again. I love, love, love the genre (truly 'immersive' gaming, after all) but I'm such a chickensh*t when it comes to actually playing them for any length of time. Dead Space is best enjoyed in very small sessions, as are most of these games - and I've never played my lovely RE4 for GC because it terrifies the sh*tters out of me (same goes for Fatal Frame, etc). I had this problem all the way back to Silent Hill on PSX and Code: Veronica on DC. Lovely-looking games I was drawn towards, but then just couldn't face playing. :fp: The only one I got on with was Doom3, as we all know. But it's more of an action game than a survival horror although it can be more than a little bit freaky at times. I did okay with RE5 - again, more of an action game than a horror survival, but still haven't quite made it to the final chapter (almost).

of the Silent hill games I've only ever played the 1st one for about 20 minutes due to the atmosphere - I don't particularly like horror movies either

Don't feel bad about it. My 11 year old son and 8 year old daughter play this and don't get scared. At all.

Ok, feel bad wimp.

Left 4 Dead can be scary when you first start, but once you figure out you're a infected killing machine, you actually relax and its becomes a little more like an arcade shooter. Granted this does not stop them jumping out on you but playing with a group of friends is a less scary proposition than solo play.

Left 4 Dead makes me scream like a little girl.

Then again I also got scared playing Bioshock.

Oh and when I first ran into Mr Chainsaw in Resident Evil 4.

And, one from the past, I nearly had a heart attack the first time I saw that strawberry floating Boo in the corridor (leading to the garden) in Peach's caslte in Mario 64.

The Scariest game i played was Thief Deadly Shadows. the cradle!!!

non others are really that scary. make me jump yes, but never spend the whole time crawling really slowly through the first level only to discover there were no zombies until the second :fp: that game was awesome. :)

Oh and Canny, I very rarely get scared by horror movies. Only The Excorcist and The Blair Witch Project [] actually scare me.

Condemned's the scariest game i've played. Sarge recommended that i get Condemned 1 instead of the sequel and its brilliant.

The highlight so far has to be the abandoned shopping mall. There's eerie Christmas music playing and there's mannequins everywhere on display stands, then some of them jump off the stand and start marching around the room in the strangest way before trying to batter you to death with a weapon.

The best bit in this level, for me, was when i was walking into a small area and i looked to my left and there was a group of 5 or 6 mannequin's to my left, just in a display window. I go round the corner and realise it's a dead end, so i turn round and literally all the mannequin's have moved and are just standing right behind me blocking my path.

This was the first time i'd played a horror game with the lights off and with my headphones and its the only time i've ever been proper on edge and scared when playing a game because i really didn't expect the mannequin's to move because i was more concerned with being jumped by some more crazed tramps.

Super Mario 64, man. When that Boo pops up and you follow him out to the garden and then to the Haunted House level. He's not in the corridor for a while. So when you walk in there one day and there's this strawberry floating huge ghost standing opposite me (making a ghosty noise) it scared the gooseberry fool out of me and think my heart stopped beating for a few seconds.

The only way to play games like this is in the dark with headphones or a good surround system, you're wasting the experience playing them in the daylight.

Project zero series, resident evil series except 4 and 5 which werent scary, silent hill series, doom 3 scared the gooseberry fool out of me when the demons teleported out of nowhere and of course that condemned level in the spoilers.

I experience something else, not exactly fear but I become almost...depressed....playing certain games. It's difficult to try and explain it.
See, I can't play The Darkness anymore. I got to about 75% of the way in and went through Hell (literally) and I started feeling queasy. The whole experience was actually making me feel physically sick. Anytime I go back to it I feel violently uncomfortable and need to stick on something else. There's nothing about it that made me jump or made me scared but it brought about these bizarre physical reactions.
Fallout 3 is exactly the same. Which is a great shame because I was enjoying it until I felt really weird.

Dead Space is a bit of a jumper, I've never been frightened by an Resident Evil game and Left 4 Dead is just sheer fun. I think it's because it's zombies and the art style used. I'm not afraid of zombies. I spent all of last summer writing about them

Going back to it, Max Payne 1 & 2 are set of games that play on this odd problem I have. I grabbed the second one for cheap off ebay last week and after a few hours play at the weekend it's not been on since :fp:
