Can't say I get scared of any games. You might get the occasional shock moment like the dogs smashing through the windows in Resi or the licker through the two way mirror in Resi 2, but that's cheap scares. I did like Project 0 where you would have to wait and wait, letting the ghosts get ever near you before snapping them. Tension!

So no. Whereas I love horror games, I'm not scared of playing them.

No, it's not motion sickness. I can play "happier" games with no problems. I think the doom and gloom has some odd physical effects. strawberry float knows. I blame listening to Enya as a wean.

This.

Also, Eternal Darkness in parts was pretty unsettling.

Also, give me my Fatal Frame 4, (Project Zero 4), you euro-nintendo nazis. I've waited for the chance to be scared wii shitless quite long enough now.

Tomb Raider games used to actually piss me off. Theres no need for random orchestra drums whilst your tippy toeing about. Or for things to randomly jump out at you. strawberry float off!

There a couple of times in Fallout where I didn't realise there was something running to my side and attacking (probably a mole-rat or something). On one occasion the sudden surprise, the rumble on the Dualshock made me literally jump and yelp, my girlfriend saw me and thought I was a mental.

Very much so, especially this bit;

I was playing the game with my sister and because that moment comes out of nowhere, we both leapt a bloody mile! It still gives me butterflies

REmake's reimaging of the bathroom scene was pretty high on the jump meter. It was bad enough draining the bath and finding the zombie but when the bloody thing burst through the door after exiting

Fort Frolic is the scariest thing ever.
Too many times was I reduced to the point of frantic wailing by the sudden animation of the previously entirely motionless concrete figures. The first time one of Cohen's creations came to life will stick with me for a long time to come. I'd descended into the flooded basement of one of the stores and saw the statue sitting in the corner in front of me. On the far side from there was a weapons upgrade machine. I went over and spent a couple of minutes doing what it is that you do at a weapons upgrade machine, wholly forgetting about the figure in the corner. I turned around and the mummy strawberry floater was standing inches from me, staring right at me. It's all a bit of a blur, but I think I lunged at the console before jumping back and fumbling for the guide button. Holy strawberry float, by the way.

There was a big sqaure room a little after that, ankle deep with water and windowed on one side, but otherwise nearly entirely empty. Save for a half a dozen concrete statues dotted around the room. I think there was two or three items of interest placed in different corners. It would've been alright actually, would the statues not have taken it upon themselves to move every time you turned your back to them. It took me about fifteen minutes to negotiate that near featureless square room. Nothing ever attacked.

Doom 3 also had a profound effect on me. I never knew I had in me the capacity to scream like an actual hysterical woman until I'd played that. Also, Resi 4 never ever failed in evoking a very real, frantic panic. There were a few moments with the Regenerators and Iron Maidens and the Garradors that made it very difficult to press on.

Other than these titles, though, I've never really gotten anything out of any other so-called horror games. I was willing to let Silent Hill 2 have its way with me upon starting it, but the sheer frustration brought about by the combat and some of the scenarios pulled me right out of any kind of atmosphere the game had created. I played through Project Zero 1 and 2 and got nothing from them but heavy boredom. I started 3 a couple of weeks ago, but it's really difficult for me to press on when I know I'm likely to be in for exactly the same kind of unaffecting experience. I mean, when have ghosts ever been scary? Needs more mannequins.

The one that also had MGS1 on it...**** scary.

Wasn't the SH demo included in the MGS1 case?

+1 for Condemned, was a brilliant experience playing through it as I'm a total wimp when it comes to horrors. The mannequin scene (first played in the dark at around 1am with headphones when the house was empty) was terrifying and while I hated every minute of it, I'm very glad I saw the game through to the end. :)

I remember when I got Resident Evil for the GC (ashamed to mention it's the first Resi game I played), I had no idea of what to expect (and I had accidentally skipped one of the initial cutscenes) so I found the dining room and it's camera angle very intimidating. So intimidating in fact, I didn't actually leave that part of the room for about 10 minutes as I was trying to prepare myself for what the next camera angle would reveal. I was 12. :fp:

We never got far enough with that. We need to take it with us to Dunoon next time.

Project Zero and Silent Hill 2 are the scariest games I've ever played.

I still need to play my copies of PZ2 and 3. I look forward to it but at the same time I'm scared to play them.

Yep, Condemned. Scariest game I've ever played. Brilliant too. Simple, but brilliant.

I remember screaming my head off in terror, as my uni housemates wondered what the strawberry float was going on.
