Dull story, awful characters & terrible combat. After spending many, many hours having a wonderful time playing FF7-10, this pretty much killed my love of all things Final Fantasy. Then XIII came along (with a plot so convoluted i had not a single idea of what was happening) a couple of years later and finished my interest off for good.

Personally one of my favourites of the series and reminded me of the mmo (ff11) but I do understand your views.

Resi 5, Halo 4, Perfect Dak Zero and Banjo Nutz and Bolts to name a few :dread:

PLAY | Persona 3 Reloaded [3h]
WATCH | Ted Lasso S3, HiJack S1, Red Dwarf S4, Dexter S2
RACE | Chew Valley 10k (June), GNR (Sept), Cardiff Half (Oct)

I don't know if it counts if it's the last ever entry in a series, otherwise I would have named Fable 3.

The next best Resistance game after the original is Resistance: Retribution on the PSP, by Bend Studio...

I never owned a Vita so...

Burnout 3. Bought it from blockbusters when drunk , hated it, have never looked at any releases from the series since. I couldn't tell you what it was that caused me to bounce off of it so hard now.

Tony Hawk's American Wasteland and Final Fantasy XII immediately come to mind

I didn't like Burnout 3 either, I don't think the soundtrack and horrible voiceovers helped much.

Also I have an irrational hatred for EA.

Also FFXII, the move to real-time combat killed any interest in the franchise for me.

No hatred of EA is irrational.

I don't know that any one game I've played has killed a series for me, but I suppose the closest I've come to it has been Mass Effect 3. Up to the final section of the game, it was very good, but then all that gooseberry fool happened and once it was over I was left wondering how it could continue. Then Andromeda popped up and while I wanted it, at least to begin with, I was over it come release. I own it, but haven't played it.

Star Fox Assault on the GC - after Lylat Wars I’d had high hopes, but this left me cold.

Resident Evil 6 took the new style to its logical end and I hated it so much I couldn’t even play beyond the early stages with Leon.

It's a shame if this means you missed Project 8, as that's one of the best Tony Hawk games.

Here's a thing:

Rez VR

I've never played Rez, but I understand that the VR version is the definitive version so that's the version I'd want to play. The problem is I don't own PSVR so I'll probably never play it.

Sorry H. :|

I haven't played it in a long while so I may have to give it another go, but imo Retribution wasn't as good as 2 or 3. Structurally it was decent but the story was lacking (although the ending does open up the possibility of a Russia-set sequel iirc which I would love) and the PSP made controls a bit of a pain. My ranking would probably be 1=2>3>>>R, although there's not much in it between the main three for me.

It's a third person shooter compared to an FPS so a little apple and oranges, but Retribution had a more interesting setting than 2 or 3 as it was in Europe rather than the US, which was also more in line with the first game's British setting.

It also controls really well, Bend did a fantastic job with the PSP Syphon Filters and Resistance in making single stick shooters.

My ranking is 1 > Retribution > 2, then I haven't played 3 or Burning Skies.

Strangely I love a lot of games people here have been mentioning. I love nuts and bolts, resident evil 5 and burnout 3.

I hated resident evil 6 though it felt so dry and lifeless... I own 7 but have hardly played it, for some reason it doesn't feel very resident evil to me.

I can't imagine playing Rez in VR being particularly pleasant, just play the HD version instead and avoid being violently sick.

On topic, Dragon Age: Inquisition has ruined the franchise for me by moving to a third person adventure type control setup. The first two games got loads praise for being accessible to disabled gamers yet the devs ignored that with the 3rd game and made something very inaccessible to me (and other disabled gamers) by drastically changing the control scheme.

Why would it make you violently sick?

Hated Nuts and Bolts, then the loading screen had the nerve to tell me that if i didn't like it, i should go and play the first game.

VR has a tendency to induce nausea.

Depends entirely on the type of game, and Rez is not one of those types. This sort of misinformed post is why people bash VR all the time.

I don’t know where you’ve heard that but I don’t believe that for a second. Just play it already man, one of the greatest games of all time!
