Resident Evil 6 was a phenomenal game.

 I was waiting for your response in regards to RE6.

ME3 - death of franchise.

BF1 - I’m not completely lost on the franchise but this better not be the future of the series. Talk about dumbing down.

Destiny 2 - not sure what’s it going to take for me to care about the series anymore.

My ranking would probably be 1=2>3>>>R, although there's not much in it between the main three for me.

My ranking is 1 > Retribution > 2, then I haven't played 3 or Burning Skies.

I'd forgotten about Burning Skies. I really liked Resistance (1), the British setting was cool even if it did upset the diocese of Manchester. I loved that the conversion plant was a repurposed cannery in Grimsby. It was also the first online shooter I ever played and it worked on day one.

The back story was intriguing and the ending made me want to find out what happened next.

AND it had split screen local MP.

So they scrapped all that and made Resistance 2 which seemed like a real sell-out to me. Insomniac themselves admitted they'd made mistakes and 3 is certainly a better game.

So for me it's 1>3>a broken heart>2

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

Split screen campaign was the real feature that set the first game apart for me

It was hardly resi at all! And the revelations were both rubbish too - if it weren’t for RE7 (and, I suppose, re2) that would have been it for me.

Revelations 1 was a great game, perfect blend of pre-RE4 and post-RE4 gameplay. Haven't played 2 but I've got the first episode of that from Plus I'm sure.

You can't honestly have gotten annoyed by this. Fair enough if you didn't like the change in direction but this was just typical Rare humour after some of the upcry. I don't understand why gamers get pissy when a developer says something akin to, "we are trying something new, if you don't like it, you don't have to buy it". EA said it about Battlefield V and people started complaining. Developers are free to do what they want with the IPs and try whatever new direction they wish, they aren't beholden to fans. Likewise, fans should just not buy a game if they don't like the look of it.

Myself I thought the game got noticeably worse with each new world, peaking with the first, which was great. Never did finish it.

I know this isn't what you meant but what about games that killed your interest in another series?

As an example: I used to buy and enjoy the FIFA games back when we only had Nintendo consoles. Then I got an Xbox with Pro Evo 4 and there was no going back. I've played a few of the newer FIFAs at times and while the series has clearly improved you simply don't feel in control of what's happening like you do in Pro Evo. So it's fair to say that playing Pro Evo 4 killed my interest in a series, just not its own series.

I feel a little bit the same way about Red Dead Redemption; I no longer look at the GTA games in the same way.

Fallout 76

As much as I hope otherwise I really can't see Bethesda reversing the rot that has set into the franchise. They produced one decent Fallout game with 3. Fallout 4 stripped out many of the elements that make for deep immersive gameplay in previous games by greatly narrowing conversation options, one example being basically eliminating skill checks apart from Charisma (yeah, that's all that matters, you don't get alternate ways of completing a quest because you are good at science or computers or have excellent medical or repair skills - all of that has no consequence). Obsidian produced the truly excellent New Vegas but I wouldn't hold up much hope of them making another any time soon as their way of making Fallout runs completely contrary to Bethesda's 'vision'.

The reason Fallout 76 has killed a lot of my interest in the series is because any studio that really understood how to make Fallout great would not be releasing a game like 76 full-stop. The fact that the game exists is testament to Bethesda's ineptitude at handling the franchise.

Maybe I'm wrong and Fallout 5 will set the series back on course but I think I'd have to be very optimistic to believe that.
