I was always a big fan of Spy Hunter, and Action Fighter was a superb substitute.

It is on Virtual Console. I want to buy it but I know it just won't live up to my memories....

It was the Spectrum equivalent, Quazatron, for me. Fantastic game. I bought the VC version of Paradroid (the only VC game I've bought), but I can't seem to bring myself to risk playing it. I did download a free PC game based on the same idea a while back, and that was quite good.

Was Quazatron the one with the circuit 'hacking' puzzle game when you took over a new robot? If so then that game was AMAZING - even if I never got very far.

That's the one. I'll see if I can find the PC game. It was very similar.

Had this on the Mega Drive, was really difficult and used to be quite scary and haunting to play!

It was an RPG, not mind-blowing in any regard but fun all the way through. I recently dug out the disc hoping to play it on my PS3, but it seems the edge of the disc has... melted somehow. Must have been jammed up against a radiator at some time or something. Very disappointing :(

:o I've been trying for ages to remember what this was called, I was starting to wonder if I'd imagined it. Thank you for saving a small part of my sanity.

Starship Chameleon (Dragon 32). The second game I ever played!

Image

You're the little saucer guy in the middle and you float around the screen absorbing bombs. When you press fire you change colour from yellow to blue (and vice versa). You can only absorb bombs when you're the same colour as them, else they kill you. Also playable 2 player. Clearly Ikaruga is a shameless ripoff.

8-)

I remember finding it and just thinking "A SNES game, made by Sony? INCONCEIVABLE."

Then it actually turned out to be pretty good.

If it helps, I was gifted it on VC to play for the first time and was very impressed. Not the most forgiving game, but the concept is great and the execution is surprisingly compelling. Don't let the dull presentation decieve!

This game was strawberry floating epic and rock hard.

Love the music. I think it must have been the side-scrolling action game I played the most. Never finished it though. Apart from accidentally discovering a level skip cheat and just skipping all the levels before I realised what was happening.

I don't think I got through this stage:

The sounds the enemies made when they spawned scared the gooseberry fool out of me :( especially while my heart was pounding trying to get through another level.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

The PSX version was terrible as it had about 20 shortcuts mapped to various button combos :fp:

Easily the best FPS on the PS1. I remember the demo with OPM and played it to death, mainly because the cheats worked to unlock all the guns!

I know the game has its issues (button combos being a big part of those) but I loved it anyway. Those kinds of isometric shooter are one of my very favourite types of game!
