Did a similar thread last couple of years

2022https://grcade.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=44265&hilit=Games+2022
2023https://grcade.co.uk/t:games-you-finally-want-to-get-round-to-playing-in-2023?f=2

Pick some games from your backlog that you keep meaning to get round to playing but never do. At the end of 2024 we can if any of us managed to actually play any of them

The Witcher 3 (Steam Deck) - This has been on my list the last 2 years list but I still haven’t played it. I did have it on Switch but traded it in and picked it up on Steam Deck instead, was debating on if I should play the first 2 before this one but that might be too much and I’ll never get round to this

Mass Effect (Steam Deck) - Was on last years list but again I never touched it, had the Legendary Edition on PS4 but have since traded that in and picked up the collection on Steam instead.

Persona 5 Royal (Steam Deck) - Never played a Persona before but this one I liked the look of, had it on Switch but traded that in and picked it up on Steam (Common theme here  )

Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna The Golden Country (NSW) - Played through 2 last year and loved it, have got XB3 on the backlog pile but would like to play through this first.

Oh boy, get ready for a list...

Act 3 of Baldur's Gate 3
Two Point Hospital
Observer
Intravenous
A Hat in Time
The Outer Wilds
Amnesia: Bunker
Yakuza: Like A Dragon
Cyberpunk: Phantom Liberty
Quantum Break
Code Vein
Weird West
Ghostwire Tokyo
The Forgotten City
Paradise Killer
Vampire: The Masquerade - Swansong
Powerwash Simulator
Heaven's Vault

Honestly, I could add plenty more but this will do me for now. I already own all of the above but really need to get round to playing them.

I've just started playing Alan Wake remastered. Keen to finish it before starting Control.

Would also quite like to go back and finish Horizon Zero Dawn so that I can begin the sequel.

I've just started Cyberpunk again after only putting a couple of hours in at launch. So that one and probably BG3.

All in order of priority / which I want to get to first:

Games I need to finish

Spiritfarer (will likely achieve before 2024)
Yooka-Laylee*
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons

And if I was being really strict with myself...

Dragon's Dogma
The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past
Kaze and the Wild Masks
Wario Land 3
Phoenix Wright Trilogy
Rekt
Golazo!
Abzu
Horace
Please, Touch The Artwork
Color Zen
~Lonely Mountains Downhill
Burnout Paradise
Super Mario 3D All-Stars
Metroid Prime Trilogy

Games I need to start

Bowser's Fury
Pokemon Trading Card Game (GBC)
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
~Cassette Beasts
~Crackdown 3
~Weird West
~Forager
~Hitman 3
~Eastward

And if I was being really strict with myself...

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
~Townscaper
~Age of Empires 2
~The Sims 4
~Skate 3
~Citizen Sleeper
~Dicey Dungeons
~Garden Story
~Lego Star Wars The Compete Saga
~Overcooked 2
Perfect Dark (via Rare Replay)
~Slay the Spire
~Tunic
~Unpacking
~Stardew Valley
~No Man's Sky
Pan-Pan
The Rainsdowne Players
Phantom Doctrine

*I backed this (on Wii U... ended up converting it to Steam, but it wouldn't run well on my then-laptop) so am counting it as "continue" rather than "start for the first time".

~These are all games currently installed on my (second-hand) Xbox One, which are a result of the previous owner's Gamepass subscription. I've reset the console and it's now in my account, but the games still load fine. I don't know if this will continue indefinitely! If it doesn't it'll shorten my backlog considerably :slol:

My goal is to not buy any more games, until I've played everything on this list (excluding the "strict" sets). I've not included games I own, that I've played but binned off because I didn't like them (such as Saints Row IV, Down In Bermuda, or SuperMash); there's every chance some other games on this list will be consigned to the scrapheap in a similar way.

Steam Library not even considered when compiling this list. Thank goodness I don't have a gaming PC.

Tears of the Kingdom

I think enough time has passed on this that I can play it and be critical on it. Looking forward to it. I didn't think Breath of the Wild was amazing, but I did see the potential for them to build something truly great on it.

Chrono Cross

I'm a big fan of Chrono Trigger and Mitsuda's music. I have never played this. The Switch version is apparently patched and runs well enough.

God of War, Ratchet and Clank, The Last of Us

My friend gave me his PS4. Time to catch up on some stuff I missed. Those three have been on my list of potential pickups for a while now. I haven't owned a PlayStation since the PS2.

Elden Ring
Plague Tale 2
Hitman
Jusant
Hellblade 2 when that comes out
Sekiro if it comes to Game Pass
Alan Wake 2 if it comes to Game Pass or is cheap

PS4
Uncharted 3 - played the first two back in 2022 and they were fun enough 15-20 hour games. I feel that I've now left it long enough to enjoy the third without getting fatigue about them all being a bit samey
Spider-Man - this is the game my friend gave me his PS4 for and I still haven't played it  - in fairness I've held off buying it because I thought my friend also had a copy, but I should probably just buy it myself and play it...

PC
The Talos Principle 2 - need to finish this off
Outer Worlds - this was free on Epic the other day, looks fun
Shadow of the Tomb Raider - similar to Uncharted, didn't want to oversaturate with similar gameplay and just haven't finished the trilogy
Alan Wake - had it for years and not bothered, which is odd because I loved Control
Quake 4 - have retro shooter Wednesdays to thank for this one, bought it along with Q2 when it was on sale.

Switch

Goldeneye and BOTW are top of my list but I'm not rushing

I've finished two of the three games in PWT; I need to do the last few chapters of the third game.

I've started ALTTP a few times in the past but I usually bounce off 2D Zeldas. But I really liked OOS as a kid, so playing it on NSO this year has been a big nostalgia hit. I want to see if I can carry that over to finally appreciating ALTTP, as well as the other 2D Zeldas on NSO. But there's every chance I'll bounce off them, again.

Not touched Bowser's Fury yet. Am I right in thinking it's quite short?

4 hours or so to get to the ending and then another few hours to get to 100% from memory. It's a great time though.

Well as I'm dropping Game Pass, I guess I'll technically have less options to play, but will hopefully play all of them (plus whatever new releases I want in 2024), short list thankfully like last year.

- Super Mario RPG (Switch), bought at launch and not even started it, will make it my first new game of the new year probably.
- Disco Elysuim (Switch), bought it cheap earlier this year with the intention to play it when I have a free gap in gaming time.
- Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, I still intend to play this even without the restored content coming to the Switch, will probably make use of the inbuilt cheat menu again as it was really fun to mess around with on the first game.
- Cybperpunk 20277 Phantom Liberty, still need to buy this, but I'm hoping to combine it with a second, more in depth play through of the base game as well, as it sounds even better after all of the patches its received in the second half of 2023.
- Assetto Corsa Competizione, my go to racing game will become even better in 2024, when the Nordschleife comes to the game, hopefully on the consoles shortly after PC.
- Switch subscription games, hopefully getting rid of Game Pass, I'l have more time to put into the Switch online subscription games, really want to play Metroid Fusion again and Zero Mission, whenever that comes to it. I need to dabble a lot more in these apps, there is some cracking games in there after all.

Of course there will be plenty of Pokemon played but I think thats almost a staple game for me now. I'd like to say this is a very achievable list though, only brand new game I definitely want/confirmed for in 2024 is Paper Mario TTYD, which doesn't even have a release date as of yet.

It looks like you've got an interesting lineup of games in your backlog! The Witcher 3, Mass Effect, Persona 5 Royal, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna The Golden Country are all fantastic choices. Best of luck with making progress on your list, and hopefully, you'll have the chance to enjoy these games in 2024! Happy gaming!
