Take your pick of Jokers it seems.

Space Marine is not a 5, its not a 5 in Edge and its definitely not a 5 in GamesTM, should have had at least an 8 in that issue.

Whats wrong with the dear rising score?

1 point to low for Dead Island

Fabian Delph is a banana split.

Hugo's right though. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is not a 5. Personally I enjoyed the campaign in Space Marine more than Gears of War 3.

The review is positive until the last couple of paragraphs - "woefully uninspired level design", "a very solid foundation then neglected to build anything particularly interesting on top of it."

They've made it sound rather dull.

What these reviewers seem to fail to grasp is that the 'level design' isn't the point.

The fun in Space Marine comes from the mechanic, it matters little that the areas you are travelling through don't add to the variety or enhance the gameplay, because at its core its fun to play and thats all that really matters.

I will say this - I think Space Marine is a very "what you make of it" game. If you just bash through it with standard attacks and the bolter, you're going to find it a very dull, brainless game.

It's very much a case of using the tools given to you to produce the most chaos and "flow" as you possibly can. It really does make you feel like a Space Marine.

It's odd but I find myself comparing it to Vanquish, a game which has a scoring system and lets you do lots of things, but the enemies and level design essentially force you to play it a certain way, and this, lets you do whatever you want but doesn't have a scoring system.

I can't help but think giving it one would wake people up to how you can play it and they'd get a lot more out of it.

But then I think if you need a points system you're an idiot and it's awesome anyway.

Oh, and I also wonder how much of it is playing with a pad. The melee combat is probably better with a 360 pad, but there is no way you can pull off some of the stuff I have with the sniper/bolter with one.

Gears 3 - 9
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine - 5

Further confirmation of the obvious.

5 seems harsh for it.

I've only played a few chapters but it seems pretty fun. I do like the 40k universe but have to say this does show what i'd mentioned before about their not being much character there, makes it a little ordinary story wise. I'd think it's more a 7 really. I'd agree it seems to be what you make it, mix it up and experiment and there's lots of fun ways to cause maximum carnage.

I played about 5 minutes of the Warhammer demo and was bored stupid. Underwhelmed by the graphics and gameplay.

Demon's vs. Dark is a matter of personal preference.

Didn't GamesTM give LBP a 10 then the unquestionably superior LBP 2 a 9? Just a thought.

Another stupid score for Space Marine. At least they were fair to Dead Island probs right on that even If I'm enjoying it more than any other recent game. Really looking forward to Dark Souls so a good score is deffo welcome.

Anyone think Space Marines is being downplayed for Epic's sake?

There's do doubt parallels between the two. I don't have the magazines that contain the reviews, but, why is it being given the scores that it doesn't deserve? Contains all the fishiness of... well, marine life, if you ask me.
