These days they tend to do something like "25 years - our favorite games" with complete disregard for the actual magazine's history.

EDGE are the only ones who actually seem aware of their past.

GamesTM do have a forum and I've posted over there (here's the post). Whatever the community there chooses to do I hope this isn't the end for them!

NGamer did a good, albeit rushed, send off issue.

OPM basically had two goes at it: issue 100 and then again in 108.

PSM2/3 had a retrospective feature and a poster with all the covers. Dan Dawkins also wrote a fantastic article in the final issue.

Guess it depends on what (and who) they can get access to in the timeframe available.

I don’t understand why they usually have to be killed so quickly (worst case, they just vanished off the shelves).

Gamesmaster was one of my fave mags, very sad to hear of this.

I still have an old issue of it from 1995...

Such a shame but no real surprise considering the state of gaming print media. I’ll buy the final issues of both for nostalgia

Yeah it's well put together.

Orange reminds of Jawa in that he's a genuinely nice guy. Main difference is he completes games.

Well they should have gone for a digital magazine.

Part of the problem is that the supermarkets and newsagents round here don't stock a magazine like Games TM. Most of console game magazines are usually for the kids shite, usually with plastic tat and big ass posters and fornite. I can't find an Edge or Games TM magazine in any of those locations, apart from a dedicated bookstore which is miles away.

My Sainsbury’s last month put OXM in the entrance above the newspaper stand, which I was quite surprised by. It’s usually dedicated to EMPIRE, something like The Economist, and cooking mags.

I hate going to the dedicated mag aisle now and it’s about 70% women’s magazines with Z list celebs and headlines like ‘look at those flabby legs on Jenna Somebody from Housewives of Addiscombe!’. The other 29% is TV Guides, Rich Folk Weeklies (Country Life), Cooking and Children’s magazines. And then right at the end is the tiny section basically for men featuring Digger Monthly and Glorious Hatchbacks of the 80s.

Future already have this covered...

Edit: Oddly enough I picked this up recently from a service station while travelling to London for work, I was reading it in the hotel that night feeling both nostalgic, but also was that, with time, it was being forgotten.

I woke up the next morning to news of the PlayStation Classic :)

You've just reminded me I have a massive poster of all the N64 magazine covers that came with NGC at the time, but it's on the back of something else. I must dig that out.

This is really sad news but not surprising. I wonder if they will move the subs to Edge? Games tm was a far better mag than Edge, I hope Retrogamer has a few more years left as it's such a unique title not affected by having to have the latest news/reviews etc which killed off print mags - i do hate the internet sometimes for changing things as mags are a brillant record of our hobby

I go along with that opinion, andy - I always preferred the "games are exciting" approach rather than Edge's super-serious tones.

Retro Gamer is a great mag although I suspect that Future will subject it to far stricter commercial performance than it had at its original publisher.

I know that it has been happening for years now but I can scarcely believe that the gaming scene has barely any magazines and that those that still exist have such low visibility and circulation.

That's a real shame. Really liked gamestm.

Didn't rudderless/HOC work for them? If so hope he is ok. Although this is going back a bit.

They were an amazing bunch to work with over the years. My personal thanks to Robin, Matthew, and Geriant for allowing me to plaster my guides over their hallowed pages for quite a few years. I shall look over my issues with great fondness.
