Why is this bollocks? Plenty of threads are posted based on website lists. Like game reviews, invariably lists won't match our own individual opinions but that's okay, it doesn't mean the thread should be banned.

Why not share your own top 5?

Me?
1) GameCube pad. Light and perfectly placed buttons.
2) DualShock 4. Larger, more comfortable then DS3. My current favourite.
2) 360. A refinement. Great for FPS games.
4) Sega Megadrive pad.
5) Quick shot 2 / other Amiga joystick I can't remember now

Sorry if it wasn't clear but that was two separate comments.

The list is a load of bollocks and I think Nick only posted it because the DS4 pad came top.

What's up with the lighting in that video? They all look ill.

I'll do a top 5 just because you asked nicely...

5. Dual Shock 4
4. Wii U Pro Controller
3. Nintendo Gamecube pad
2. Xbox 360 pad
1. Xbox One pad

I think in general pad design has gotten better over the years, I think its nuts to include any pad without dual analogue sticks, old pads might have been good for the time they were released but a pad without analogue sticks is niche now.

DS4 is usable (compared to past iterations) but still has its sticks in the wrong place and the triggers though better are still not great. It does have great face buttons though and is decent to hold.
Wii U Pro controller is a good all-round effort, what holds it back are a lack of analogue triggers, otherwise it'd be higher up the list.
Gamecube controller has some good triggers and an exceptional left analogue...unfortunately the stunted right C analogue stick is a joke.
Xbox 360 pad only has one major fault and that's its D-pad (even on the newer models), other than that its almost (the face buttons could be more comfortable) perfect in every way.
Xbox One pad improves on the 360 one in almost every way, the sticks are better (no matter what anyone says), the face buttons are better, the Dpad is a massive improvement. The triggers are slightly better (though I prefer the shape on the 360 ones if I'm honest), all in all its a great pad.

EDIT - I'm not including Keyboard and Mouse because there are too many alternatives and its not really in keeping with the essence of this feature, all though obviously a good Keyboard and Mouse is probably a better FPS controller than any pad.

1. 360 pad
2. GameCube
3. Saturn..for the d pad :datass:
4. N64
5. DS4

The dual shock is a massive improvement. Doesn't make my thumb joints go cold like the DS3

Fabian Delph is a banana split.

Let's not argue here people. After all, no matter what controller is best, you have to admit that it is not as good as keyboard and mouse. 8-)

One major fault? How about the D-Pad, face buttons and shoulder buttons. They are all completely useless.

I prefer the DS4 to the Xbone pad, but prefer the 360 pad to both.

that is a really awful list, feels like they chose it more on console popularity than actual good design. I mean nes and n64 controllers above gamecube, what?

Was t be list also based on things said pad brought to the table? Like wasn't the Nes pad one of the first d-pad controllers and the N64 with the rumble etc. Still wouldn't say they are near the cube pad though.

1.Gamecube Wavebird
2. Xbox 360 wireless controller
3. Sega Dreamcast controller

Also liked the Saturns 3D controller which clearly inspired the DC pad.

Absolutely hated the N64 pad as it gave me horrible hand cramp.

As much as I loved the Dreamcast I hated the controller...

- No rumble
- No bumpers
- Only one stick
- Sharp bumps on the analogue stick
- Replaced the best ever d-pad (Saturn) with the worst ever
- VMU was a gimmick
- The cable sticking out of the bottom

The original Saturn pads d-pad was abysmal.

This one

I've never liked rumble as I have poor grip and it causes me to drop the pad, the single stick was fine for most games, bumpers weren't introduced until the 360 pad and the wire could be tucked into a slot under the pad to hold it out of the way.

Good thing they quickly learnt their lesson and released the proper version.
