That was where I gave up on my last replay of CVX too. It's a bit tough that section.

It's one of the most frustrating games I've played because it gives you literally no warning of these things. No warning about the grenade launcher only being accessible as Claire for a certain time, no warning about having to fight the Tyrant on the cargo plane, there's a gate in the room that fills with gas during Chris's jolly on Rockfort that I've never been able to open because it gives no indication of how beyond "there's a keycard slot behind this gate." Raise your hand if you left the fire extingusher on Rockfort, bet you were annoyed when you found out you couldn't get the magnum and Alexia was going to rape you at the end. :x :fp:

God help you if you didn't know about Claire being behind the stairs if the Nosferatu poisoned you.

I had to defeat Alexia with a knife because I gave Claire 90% of my stuff whenever she was going to face Steve. I didn't have much ammo for the Tyrant either. I must have hit him with a box about 10 times before he finally decided to strawberry float off. :(

I lost the fire extinguisher too, and:

God help you if you didn't know about Claire being behind the stairs if the Nosferatu poisoned you.

I didn't know about that either!

Still managed to finish it though. 8-)

Unfortunately I lent out REmake to a mate and never got it back so I've never been able to replay the series. I've all the others so a return to Raccoon City might be just the thing before RE5.

*raises hand*

Yeah, I did that too. I left it in one of those item storage bins beside the metal detectors on Rockfort on my first playthrough of the game.

I watched Episode 3 of the Retrospective earlier, and I do agree with the criticism of Zero in terms of the plot. It basically took the series from 'wacky but moderately plausible' territory to 'batshit insane supernatural' territory, and probably opened more plot holes than it filled regarding the overall story - like what were the circumstances surrounding Rebecca's amnesia she picked up between Zero and the original game and who stole all her weapons and supplies. While the obvious answer is that the original game (and REmake) were released before Zero, it still isn't very satisfactory story wise. As a game though I really enjoyed it.

Surprisingly, despite 2 being my favourite in the series, I had completely forgotten about the RE2 areas in Zero which were redone in the Zero engine. I now remember having the biggest grin in my face when I discovered those for the first time, although by the same token it's now a bit depressing as I don't know if they'll ever go the whole way with a full remake of 2.

To be honest, I hope they use a variation of the 4 engine rather than the old school route of painted/animated backgrounds. As much of a fan as I am of the originals (the PSX original one still being by absolute favourite of them all), I now prefer the full 3D camera/movement.

I don't know, I just can't shirk the feeling that it just wouldn't work with the new camera. Regardless, I'd still love a RE2 remake in any shape or form, so here's hoping either way.

I agree. The old camera was fundamental to how the game played. Sometimes you couldn’t see a monster until the camera switched to another point. There was also a part in the first game where you could see a zombie approaching in a mirror. Stuff like this probably wouldn’t work with a RE4 style of camera.

Shamefully I never noticed the RE2 areas in RE0 because I played 0 before I got the port of 2 for the GC. Most of RE0 past the train is something of a blur so I still didn't notice when I went through RE2. Haven't done Claire's A and Leon's B scenario either for 2 so that'll be something to do.

I gave Claire 90% of my stuff whenever she was going to face Steve

You tried to kill him? :fp:

Collectively we're not very good at this :fp:

I don't know, I think it'd work. All they'd need to do is rejig a few areas to suit the camera and change the formula for some of the "scares".

If that's not your thing, I'd at least prefer full 3D visuals with non-static cameras a la Code: Veronica.

It isn't like they put a big "This isn't a real boss!" banner above his head! I thought he was the final/penultimate boss, so I stocked up to take him and Alexia down.

Then it all went horribly wrong... :(

It's ironic in a way, the three biggest RE fans on here are also the most rubbish.

I stand corrected, even if you did try and kill the Incredible Steve ;)

Does the game make it obvious he was invincible or something? :?
When attacked by a huge monster in RE don't most people try and kill it?

Good point, stupid boss really.

I've got to ask how you ended up so bereft of ammo that you had to face Alexia with a knife.

The camera angle sort of gives away what you're supposed to be doing, in normal boss encounters the camera doesn't swing round to in front of the player. (heavily hinting that you should be running instead of fighting)

I tried to kill him first, then just cleared out of there when it didn't seem to have any impact. I didn't stand fighting him for ages, if that is what you're thinking. PCCD's comments made me think that it was signposted that you weren't meant to fight at all (Like a "OMG! HE CAN'T BE KILLED! RUN CLAIRE!" cutscene I had managed to completely miss  ), so I was confused.

I had equipped Claire with my grenade launcher and assault rifle, and the game never gave me the chance to switch them back afterwards. I had plenty of weapons and ammo, Claire was just holding most of them.

I believe I had a Shotgun with a only a handful of bullets and the knife. The fight wasn't actually that hard, it was just a long slog of stabbing Alexia while avoiding those little things she releases. I always enjoy how Resi has optional extras you have to discover (like the crests and the magnum in REmake) but preventing you from going back and discovering the extras later, like what happened constantly in CV:X, was a bad decision really. Although I only knew I had missed all those opportunities after I finished the game, so it doesn't matter that much.

I knew Steve was unkillable.

Of course, I was reading guide to help me finish CV:X. :shifty: Despite CV:X being "weakest" of the series, I loved it. Sure, there's moments where you could of missed out on getting something like mangun is poorly thought, but other than that I loved it.

I never could beat that boss without getting poisoned

Another video I found interesting:

Some (shaky-cam) footage of Resident Evil Zero when it was an N64 game.

Looks pretty good actually. Runs smoothly enough.

Wow - that is pretty smooth. I've only seen pictures of Zero on N64 in N64 magazine back in day, but I've never seen the footage until now.
