I never really got on all that well with the new 'touch' puzzles, and that bizarre random occurence where you dropped all your weapons to slash at a group of enemies with your old trusty.....combat knife. Gah. That said though, I still loved having a good portable Resi in my pocket.

Wasn't it possible to play an "original" mode that didn't feature the touch-screen gubbins?

Yes, there was a 'Classic' mode which was an exact port of the original game with the ability to skip the cutscenes and door loading animations, and a separate 'Rebirth' mode with the touch screen puzzles and fights added in. There was also a separate knife battle mode which used the touch screen in a light-gun style game and the local multiplayer (which I never got a chance to play).

The scariest thing was that you never knew what to expect. There could be (and there usually was) danger behind every door. After spending some time in a section of the mansion, the halls and rooms would be 'cleared' of zombies, but whenever you found a key, or another object that would allow you to go farther into the mansion - you just knew that all the halls that you though were safe were filled with nasty creatures again.

For me the scariest part was where I had to get a medicine for someone else, I was walking down a stair when I heard something slamming a door open and running after me. I fled to the next rooms. I still don’t know what it was.

REmake is awesome. I've been a Resi fan since.

Crimson heads are still the scariest things ever.

Nothing can match the sense of dread after you come back from the little cabins after Plant 42, and you get that cut scene showing then arriving.

I still love it today.

Lisa Trevor's first appearance in the cabin? Frightened the life out of me so she did. Forest coming after you out on the balcony was a jump moment as was 'one dangerous zombie' mode in REmake.

I never knew about the Lisa Trevor thingm I kept myself shielded up until the release, I remember unloading all my ammo into her and watching her soak everything I had, the chains...and the moans...brrrrrr.

As for the forest thing I knew that was coming from before, the worst part was when I realised that the Hunters in this version could open bloody doors, B.O.W.S arent supposed to be intelligent. :x

Fabian Delph is a banana split.

Didn't stop them getting in first time out did it?

One Dangerous Zombie mode was pretty interesting. It was just the same as before but Forest covered in grenades would be in random places in and around the mansion. He was the same as a crimson head in what he could do but if you attacked him the grenades would go off and it was instant game over.

You realise that there were moments in the PSX original in which they opened doors, right?

Actually exited the rooms they where orignally in? I dont think they did you know. In remake, the door knobs get moving and and then a hunter would smash through the door, leaving it ope for the rest of the game, that never happened in the original.

In cut-scenes it happened a few times, so it was never a case of them not being able to open doors. It was more of a case that the knowledge of the technology wasn't there at the time (plus it was difficult with the static backgrounds), it had nothing to do with B.O.W.s not being able to open doors.
I mean, how would you explain Nemesis, with your theory?

I was making a joke mate.

I get the reason the hunters didnt follow you in the original was because of tech limitations, it was just a erm...nice? suprise in the remake.

The bath zombie from REmake bursting through the door if you didn't kill him > any moments involving the hunters and doors

currently playing resident evil 0 that i borrowed of a freind and its amazing the graphics are great considering it came out in 2002 and i find myself unable to switch it off :o the only thing i dont like about this one is the lack of storage places to put items (instead leaving them on the floor) other than that its awsome so far..

I've been meaning to go back through REmake and 0 as well as finish CVX but they look jagged as hell on my HDTV via scart. Anything I can do to smooth them out a bit?

Would look a lot better with a component cable (assuming you're using a Wii to play them). Dunno if it would help with jaggies though tbh.

Thought I'd add a couple of videos related to the original just to join in with the love-in.

Intro (Original Cheese-riffic Uncut Japanese Version)

Intro (REmake version)

Remake really is a fantastic upgrade. It can't match the awesomeness factor of the cast introduction at the end of the original intro though.

8-)

Nah I'm playing on a GC. Might play with the TV settings and try and soften the image a bit

I don't intend to flood the thread with Youtube videos, but I just had to add this one.

Every time I replay the original the voice acting slays me.
