PostGaming = Insomnia.
by Photek » Mon Jul 20, 2009 10:06 am

For me at least, I find Gaming does lead to me staying up way past my bed time, especially during the week when I regularly play till 1am although im up at 8am the following day! At the weekends such times can exceed 3am.

I'm a mix and match kind of gamer. On Saturday night for instance I switched on my 360 for a game of CoD:WaW and with roughly 30mins playtime each I went from that to Battlefield1943, Riddick, Eternal Sonata, TSofMI and then FIFA09 for about 2hrs then back to Riddick. I still wanted to play on despite my eyes getting a bleary and the planet level of Riddick scaring me.

Lastnight I was up till 1am playing GTA IV TLAD and I can see myself doing the same again tonight. You find yourself staying up well past your bedtime playing gamage?

I was recently up to 4am trying to gt my PC to work, often up to past midnight with multiplayer and Fallout 3. At my age and with a full time job it can be a bit of a killer.

I tend not to stay up late playing games that often, but thanks to my "if it's important, I'll put it off till later" attitude, it tends to be the work I put off doing earlier so that I could play games in the day that keeps me up, so indirectly, yes it does.

It would be a problem, doing a 12 hour day job then commimg home to play some games, if it wasn't for the fact I've devloped the ability to only need 3-4 hours sleep a day.

I blame that on playing video games for 20years now, it's completely killed my need to sleep

The only time I tend to stay up till the early hours playing games is when I've got my mates round and we're on Singstar after a session. But that doesn't happen as often as I like :(

Before I got a job and a life I would usually turn my PS2 off at around 2.30am after tinkering in the Master League on PES.

I remember when i first got broadband back in 2004 playing Battlefield 1942 til about 5 or 6am, same goes for wolfenstein enemy territory. On saturday i wasnt too bad, went to bed at 2am after playing fallout 3 and fight night 4 for an hour or so each :D

Wolfenstein Enemy Territory... o/

One of the best wartime FPS games I've ever played.

Ehm, yes. I clearly recognize this.

I also have a partner who will yell at me from the bedroom to come to bed already. To which I usually - in an irritated voice - respond: Yes, in a minute!

I always thought that an advantage of being gay was that this wouldn't happen.

Being straight's not so bad after all!

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

Normally I'm ok, but it's when I get really stuck into an online game that I end up staying up late.

Take last night for example, I was up t'ill quarter to 1 playing Wipeout HD when I had to get up at 7 :fp:

Happens to me all the time.

Usually think I'll just have ' a quick blast on fifa'.

Ends up with me playing club matches until about 2am. :fp:

Love it though.

The only time I've ever played into the early hours was when I was up until 3am finishing Halo 3 co-op on Legendary.

Sadly, the perfectionist in me takes over sometimes and I'll try and find that perfect point to stop. Wii Music, which should in theory be pretty easy to stop and resume another time, caught my attention last night, and I stayed an extra hour tinkering around with a new version of 'Daydream Believer'.

Advance Wars was always a devil for keeping me up on a battle, and recently PictoPict has taken over that fine tradition, and I often can't bring myself to stop until I've finished a stage.

F**k me I'm old.

I don't really get to game until 9pm onwards, on the odd days I can game.

I then clock-watch, and if it gets to midnight - I save and shut down. Knowing that I am up at 0630 every day (work or kids) and have a full/tiring day ahead prevents me from early hours gaming.

The only early hours gaming I did was back in Uni days playing on the Amiga with mates (late 80's). Although I think Civ 2 may have pushed me into the early hours when I was working clinically.

When I finished college I had a whole summer where I only worked 2 days a week in Argos, from 12-8 on a thursday and from 12-6 on a saturday. I used to sit up in my room and play Shadowman from 11pm-6am while listening to the radio in the background.

I used to wake up on non work days at 4pm. It was class.

Great times.

Midnight onwards is really the only time I get to play something.

I'm working a lot recently and even though I plan to game during the day, I usually end up getting distracted and doing something, especially when the weather is nice. Take today, for example: I want to start Tales of Symphonia, as I've got nothing on until 8pm tonight, but I know I won't manage to do that.

Instead, I'll stick the console on at around 12:30am when there's nothing to distract me, and play til about 3am. It's the only time I can play without feeling as if I've wasted time. In contrast, I see time after 1am as "gained time" as everyone else is asleep.

I learned how to just turn off consoles and such at 12pm, or just not play when its getting late. I tend to go on PC to chat till I'm tired, so I drift back to sleep. However, sometimes I have sleeping problems and can't sleep at all, and what makes it worse is that I just gave up in end and play my Xbox 360 or PC (TF2/Deus) till I feel REALLY tired. Most of time it's fine till 7am, which makes things worse.

Also I kept getting dreaming about games when I go to sleep. I think I need to stop playing before 10/11 and recover & hope I don't get dreams anymore....
