Recently and over the last year i have watched quite a lot of gaming documentaries. I find them really intriguing and as gaming is a hobby and has been a hobby of mine for years i find documentaries that show what impact games have on lives and also behind the scenes on games very interesting. Some documentaries can be boring but so far i have watched about 5-6 that are brilliant at least for me. Some have been officially released on DVD or cost so can be bought digitally but i have also found a few good ones on youtube.
Noclip Documentaries
Here's one i really enjoyed and i'm not even in to Dota but it's an interesting watch about the world of competitive DOTA 2 gaming.
Conversations with creators is also very interesting, not really documentary but more interview based with developers on their history and current games,as a Destiny fan i especially enjoyed the Bungie one.
Minecraft: The story of Mojang - I really enjoyed this one even though i have never played Minecraft (free on youtube)
I Am Street Fighter - 25th Anniversary Documentary - I thought this one was brilliant as i have been playing street fighter for years mainly since STreet FIghter 2 in the early nineties. (free on Youtube)
Indie Game: The Movie - This is just the trailer but it can be streamed on Netflix and also purchased from the official website.
The King of Kong - Again another trailer but this can be found i think on Netflix as well.
Ecstasy of Order - Tetris Masters - I had not heard of this one before and only found it after doing a good bit of searching online but i would highly recommend it. The documentary is along the lines of King of Kong but mainly based around the first ever Tetris tournament. (no idea if you can buy this i had to find a torrent for it)
Rise of the Video Game
And the final one which is on my next to watch is The Last of Us documentary. This is free on youtube.
If anyone has any further recommendations then please say so , i can't get enough of these and i can add the trailers to the opening post if people would like me to keep a list. I am sure i'm not the only one who loves watching these type of documentaries.

The oppressed are allowed once every few years to decide which particular representatives of the oppressing class are to represent and repress them in parliament.
just added rise of the video game , this was a documentary done by the discovery channel which i think if i remember is a 3 parter. It goes through the history of videogames right from the start.
Good thread. I was searching for some documentaries at the weekend.
I love Indie Game the Movie. The producers have released a Indie Game The Movie Special Edition with 100 minutes of additional footage of other indies and 'epilogues' /followups to Phil Fish, Jonathan Blow et al. http://buy.indiegamethemovie.com
Another movie in a similar vain is Us and the Games Industry. Has some of the same indies. Strangely not available anywhere that I can find. http://usandthegameindustry.com
And a list of some more movies about gaming and gaming culture can be seen here.
There was a documentary called Chasing Ghosts about Twin Galaxies and all the high score players from the 1980's. There's some proper weird types in it. It's split into 9 parts so I'll just link to the play list. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1c1l2I ... 74AEEB6802

I was also going to say The Smash Brothers. Aside from that I've seen very few gaming documentaries. Thread bookmarked. Would love to see one about TwitchPlaysPokemon...
There's an ongoing series covering Double Fine's Amnesia Fortnight game jam thingy:
Four teams make four prototypes in two weeks. The two weeks are over, but there's still a couple of episodes left to be released. You can buy the prototypes here.

good find, that's another one i also watched which has the guy who maintains twin galaxies, he also appeared in king of kong.
One I've been looking for but can't find is the 3 episode long BBC documentary on the history of games. Part 1 was ancient board games and such, part 2 was something like industrial age British board games and on wards and part 3 was video games.
Just finished the Smash Brothers. What an awesome series. I wish there would be more series on the internet, I'm sick of 5-10 minute youtube shorts, I want full series with full 20-60 minute episodes.
