Valve's Dota 2 eSport documentary "Free To Play" is available on Steam for free. Just finished watching it and it's a nice look at some of the people who competed in the first "International" back in 2011. Worth a watch.

King of Kong and street fighter docs where enjoyable, recommended. It's sad about the arcades. Mind you there's the arcade on Brighton peer and there is an actual arcade on the street as well so maybe I will be pissing away some money this June.

Going to binge on this thread over the next few days, thanks fellas.

I used to love watching the Gametrailers.com Retrospectives that they did for things like the GTA, MGS and Elder Scrolls series.

I only realised today i hadn't updated this thread in a couple of years so here are some more

Here's one i really enjoyed and i'm not even in to Dota but it's an interesting watch about the world of competitive DOTA 2 gaming.

Conversations with creators is also very interesting, not really documentary but more interview based with developers on their history and current games,as a Destiny fan i especially enjoyed the Bungie one.

Just in case you're not aware, the GT crew reassembled as Easy Allies, and they began doing more retrospectives (only two episodes so far, but presumably more to come): https://easyallies.com/#!/show/retrospectives

I follow a youtube channel that does a lot of long, multi-part documentaries on predominantly the 80's and 90's UK games scene. Loads of stuff on UK developers and publishers from the 8-bit micro era. I'm gonna link to a few of them here as they're really worth watching. It makes a nice change from the US-centric stuff that we see a lot of on Youtube.

There's also a five part documentary about Peter Molyneux, a three parter about Commodore and Jack Tramiel, and most recently a three part look at Gremlin. Some really obscure stuff as well, such as a look at Tectoy who did all the publishing for Sega in Brazil.

Cheers for this, buddy - anything around the Speccy era is right up my alley. I honestly wasn't sure if this was supposed to be a comedy channel at first, but the more I watched the more I realised that it's actually really well written and they certainly know their stuff.

If you had told me ten years ago that my favourite TV channel would be an online show presented by a transgender with speech difficulties, I would have spat in your hair. I feel both a bit ashamed and proud.

It's a bit odd at first, but you get used to it. They know their stuff and some of them are really interesting.

I've yet to find one that isn't interesting! I've actually really warmed to her (? - apologies for my genuine ignorance) and get help but be drawn in by her knowledge and enthusiasm.

The one about Tectoy and how they did everything for Sega in Brazil was good. It's such a weird situation they have over there. Plus loads of stuff on old 8-bit systems which is fantastic as there's nothing else like it on Youtube that I'm aware of. She does a really good job (I think you're right by saying "Her", "She" etc) and I'm actually thinking about supporting her patreon.

I really enjoyed this series of videos looking at the rise of videogame music in Japan and some of the composers behind the early 8/16 bit tunes:

Doesn't go into too much depth but what's there is interesting.
