Speaking of fashion, the difference between the late 70s and late 90s feels much greater than the difference between the late 90s and late 10s.
In fact technology aside I don't think pop culture's changed that much at all since the late 90s, certainly not compared to the obvious rapid changes during the 20th centure anyway.

Nintendo are still doomed, their last console was a commercial failure, sold in record low numbers for a Nintendo machine and was largely ignored by the public despite having a dedicated following and producing a number of cult classic games. Also theyre probably on the verge of getting out of the console business and going to focus on just making games..

I'd actually quite like to see Nintendo games appearing on the other consoles, especially since i can only afford to own a single console these days anyways (been exclusively gaming with Sony consoles for a decade now).

Possibly true. Do you think that is related to the period of time that is most appropriate to you though? I always assume that as i get older, most fashionably relevant things drift further and further from my sphere of knowledge, and so it all appears as a non distinctive lump.
I could be giving modern pop culture too much credit however, and it possibly is all, (by and large), shite.

Quite happy with the big 3 status quo we have, Microsoft's games haven't been great of late but they're a damn site better platform holder than Sega were.
Speaking of Microsoft, yeah they've changed a bit with regards to gaming...

Two main reasons for that
- Innovation has slowed down, so pop culture is looking to recycle the past.
- 80s/90s kids are now at the age where they have more power at media corporations, and they're nostalgic

This viewpoint is exactly what puts Nintendo in such an odd position and fuels the Nintendoomed talk. Im not saying its a terrible viewpoint or anything, all the games you want to play on one console would be a better situation in a lot of ways, but a lot of people want to play Nintendo games, so they need to get a Nintendo machine, yet they also want Fifa, COD, GTA, whatever so they dont want a Nintendo machine. Since there are more CODs, Fifas, and GTAs etc out there than games made by Nintendo, they will go for the non Nintendo machine, so we have situations like we did with the Wii U where it hosts Breath of the Wild, Splatoon, Mario Maker and all of these other incredible games yet noone buys it cos they cant ge the other games on there. Of course this is caused by Nintendo being Nintendo and making a machine so different from the others so its largely their own doing, its still an interesting situation to me though.

I thought the joke was that they've been saying Nintendo are doomed for the last twenty years - yet still they remain. They're not going anywhere.

Some people genuinely believe Nintendo are constantly on the verge of packing it all in and moving to software only.
