Had both N64 and PS at this stage and Final Fantasy VII changed my life. So many good memories

That must have been one hell of a Christmas. 2 of my favourite games of all time!

I got my N64 in 1998 and chose Banjo-Kazooie over Super Mario 64. A few months passed and I did get then get Mario 64 but I only played it for about half-hour before taking it back to part-exchange . A couple of years later I picked it up again and realised that it was pretty good .

I owned a Saturn, it was a terrible year which was odd as 1998 had loads of great games like Panzer Dragon Saga, Burning Rangers, Shining Force III and House of the Dead.

Quake 2 and probably the original Tomb Raider.

I got both my PS1 and N64 in 1998, PS1 was bought during my GCSE 'study leave' (which probably explains my mediocre results) and the N64 was a christmas present.

The PS1 was bought with GTA and Pandemonium 2, I didn't choose the games as they were part of a bundle, I then Bought Tekken 2 and Ridge Racer Revolution a couple of weeks later.

I got Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire with the N64 and bought Diddy Kong Racing the following week, I didn't bother with Mario Kart or Mario 64 until I bought preowned copies several years later when I'd given the N64 to my sister.

Yes, in '97 I was totally focused on PlayStation. It seemed like nearly everyone had a PlayStation and, in those generally pre-internet times, there were so many videogame retailers and gaming mags. Great times!

As good as Banjo is, Mario 64 is leagues above it.

Until I started collecting N64 games again, I had forgotten how good it was. Yes, there was only a small library of games, but boy were they good!

AXL, I don't know if you already have it, but as an N64 fan I think you'd enjoy reading through the Nintendo 64 Anthology. It's a terrific book for fans of the '64, containing mini articles on all 380-odd games alongside some interesting stuff about the console variations and other kit. The writing can sometimes be a little odd as it's just one guy's verdict on the games (Robotron 64 is one of my favourite N64 titles and the author says it's not worth playing ) but overall it's excellent.

My pride collectable for the N64 is a copy of Bakuretsu Muteki Bangai-O (Bangai-O); only 10k carts were produced and distributed in Japan and I was lucky enough to grab two of 'em a while ago... way before the ridiculous price rises of the past few years!

That book looks pretty good - I might have to invest in it I love reading about the old systems as much as I love playing them.

Congrats on Bangai-O. I didn't know it ever came out for N64. I have it on Dreamcast!

I didn't get my first console (N64) until 1999 so 1997 was made up PC gaming and the Game Boy.

My parents weren't keen on buying me games so I played whatever my brother had on PC which included the fantastic Red Alert. Even after I, eventually, completed both campaigns, I'd spend hours replaying them but before that I'd play skirmish missions on a custom map that I made with the level editor. The design was simply two big islands and I'd amass a huge army before invading the opposing computer player's island. It was simple and cheesy but enjoyable for me.

Descent is one of the only other full games that we had but I loved playing through the long campaign with cheats like invincibility. I wasn't the best gamer as an eight year old but I had fun My cheat method was also applied to Doom but I did manage to beat that as an adult

We also had Street Fighter II but could never figure out how to do a hdouken and the only way that we could compete the arcade mode was by cheesing with Dhalsim Other PC gaming highlights include an on rails shooter called Novastorm, that I played a lot but never completed, and demos of Men in Black, Worms 2 and Destruction Derby.

Most of my gaming was done on the PC as the Game Boy belonged to my sister. I did play a lot of Super Mario Land 2, which I could only compete on easy mode, and Tetris. I wasn't very good at the latter but I gave it my best shot. My sister would complete the type B game for me on the very hardest difficulty so that I could see the spaceship launch

I was three in '84 but was already gaming (if you call 'randomly flying the ship round the screen in a Sinclair QL Asteroids clone' gaming, that is).

I was born in 84.

I think 97 was the year I realised the Saturn was a bad choice over the Playstation, and I got my first PC by the end of the year. Don't really remember much until Christmas and Championship Manager 97/98.
