We have a brick shed in our garden, proper roof, damp proof, double glazed, mains power etc. Would never sleep in it mind, you're pretty mental for wanting to. It used to be a play room for the kids who used to live here, now it has bikes and a tumble dryer.

I wouldn't want to live in one over the winter.

It will cost you a fortune - I work in an
secret
national DIY store. Fact is the shed of a suitable size can fetch anywhere (depending upon seasonal offers) £150-500. Insulation, damp proofing, will set you back another £150-300. The power, will be tricky depending if you will have wires coming from the house - in that case outdoor extension reels..etc.. But if you have the money great, and who is going to come into your backgarden complaining about planning permission? Only a old twat. Just go ahead sounds really cool, being outside the house, in a small yet warm little shed, although I'd be shitting myself at night if there was knocking on the door!

You can't 'live' in a garden shed - i.e. turn it into an occupied habitat: it's against the law without planning permission and would be classified as an unlawful extension. The local council would fine your parents for failing to get planning permission and they'd send a team around to demolish your shed.

Ever wondered why more people don't do it? Wonder no more.

is it really a shed if it's made out of bricks?

Lego could prove to be a alternative material. I've never seen a lego building get flooded from above.

One of my friends from school had a brick shed like that in his garden. He coverted it into his bedroom/games room. It was epic. Had it carpeted, heating system installed and decked out with sofas, a fridge, TV (complete with Sky TV and an Xbox) PC and of course his bed.

Was great for gaming nights. But you had to go into the main house if you wanted to use the toilet.

I had a mate who lived in his nan's garden shed.

When I say mate, I use it loosely. I had to sqiurt Jif lemon juice into his eyes the last time he came to get him to go.

Do it.

Edit: Actually, he had no stuff. Wouldn't you be worried about having your expensive consoles nicked etc.? I doubt that insurance covers living in a shed.

This has Child services written all over it!

Seriously a loft conversion is so much cooler than a conservatory/shed.

Wouldn't anything in there get ruined eventually by the condensation that is created? and how the fudge would you use electrics? this idea is strawberry floating foolproof!

yes, a shed is a term, it doesn't have to be traditional wood, it could be made from sheet metal as well.

I don't think insualation is on his agenda here! and I think he already has the shed erected in the garden.

That post just says to me, "seriously, why ask for any help on here?". It always ends in wanking.

There's no need to be here any longer than necessary. Let's split up, look for survivors, and get out of here.

Not a good idea. A shed full of expensive electronics? Why don't you just put up a big neon sign saying "burgle me" and be done with it?

That teenager in Coronation St. Lives in a shed. I always laughed at how flimsy the door looked.

Anyway sounds like a great idea. Maybe a PS3 AND a 360 in there would be ideal (for heating purposes)
