PostGarden shed as a Bedroom

Over the past few months it has been hard for me to play games at night as my bedroom is shared wih my older brother. Somtimes he needs to go to bed quite early as he has a Job of which he has to get up quite early to get to.

Anyway I was wondering is it alright for a person my age (17) to have a shed as a bedroom ie beds shelves games consoles?

How expensive would it be to shelve out for one which is a reasonable size warm and won't be prone to getting wet inside during bad weather For those cold winter days (Like today).

It would also be nice As my brother gets older to have some privacy to do some things in private.

Answer please your help would be greatly appreciated.

You want to live in a garden shed? I'd imagine it'd cost quite a lot to damp proof it, insulate it, heat it, get power to it, and generally make it nice and habitable. Is there not just another room you can play your console(s) in?

Unless you get it plumbed in, you're going to have fun running across the garden in your pyjamas in the wind/rain/snow every time you need the loo at night.

What Lotus said. Also, what about the spiders, or doesn't that bother you?

If you can afford to kit-out your shed, you'd probably be better off going for a loft-conversion or conservatory.

Go down to your local B+Q that has a garden centre. Have a look at the range of sheds available there. They should also be able to help you out with damp proofing, insulating and setting up electrical connections. If you dont like the look of the "sheds" you could make a more permanent abode by digging the an area, laying foundations and building brick or concrete panel walls with some kind of wood/fibre glass roof perhaps.

Good luck

It's gonna be fooooooking cold!

Living in the shed is like being homeless almost!

Make sure you get a proper set of locks or something and an alarm. Rapists would be drooling over the prospect of being able to rape a lone victim in the home and they'd think they have easy access seeing as you're on your own maybe sleeping.

You'll probably find that nothing you put in there will be insured. Add in the cold, the rain, spiders, etc., and you might as well just go and live in the park.

I am doing my A levels soon but I'm not planning on going to uni as I'd rather the cheapest avenue out of my house. But I think it would be stupid leaving my house for a rented student apartment and stuck in a dead end job just for the sake of having a roof i can call my own.

So I want more room in my house that I can call my own for the cheapest way possible. So I don't have to pay rents just and save up for doing a practical course that can get me into a job that I enjoy doing.

I went for a shed as it seems the cheapest option but if its gonna be weedy and the obvious cons are there any cheap loft converstions or conservotries that I could find?

Getting a job and some money to afford shelter isn't a stupid thing. If you were smart you'd try and find a job you enjoyed, or put up with what you have while participating in a course to help get you where you want.

Living in a shed wouldn't be something to be proud of.

I might just have to wait and do this seems the most plausible I'll just find a cheap London flat I can rent with my mate and I can do whatever there.

I've always fancied living in a converted bus.
