New model of PSVR is coming,

https://blog.us.playstation.com/2017/10 ... imate-faq/

The headset itself is mostly the same, main differences Are,

Breakout box now supports HDR pass through
Headset now comes with built in headphones, but they're ear buds :dread:

The new breakout box will not be backwards compatible with the existing headset.

Japanese release date is October 14th

Bollocks. I'd buy a new standalone breakout box with HDR passthrough.

Isn't HDR only on PS4 Pro? If so then it makes no difference to me.

When I saw there was an update I was worried it would be something a bit more substantial. As it is it just lets you use HDR on the TV without unplugging the processing box.

I think the main upgrade will be the PS5 and that won't require any new VR hardware.
I expect maybe a PSVR2 after 5 or 6 years with maybe 4K support but I'd rather have lower resolution with the fancy upscaling techniques as I think 4K VR will be beyond the PS5 abilities as it has to do everything twice.

Nope, all PS4's can output HDR.

Sorry but what's a breakout box?

I've been tempted to ask for PSVR for Xmas for a couple of weeks and saw this announcement yesterday. It's confused me!

I have the Sony Headset 2.0 and a PS4Pro. Does the new PSVR not allow me to use my headset then? (But the old model does?).

Thanks

The PSVR requires a few bits of kit.

The PS4 itself - Sold Separate
The PS4 Camera. - Sold Separate
A Processing (Or Breakout) Box - Comes with.

You connect to the Processing Box with a USB cable and the HDMI Output from the PS4. The Headset plugs into the Processing Box with another HDMI cable (Sends the image to the headset) and a data cable (This carries all the data from the gyroscopes etc). The processing box also has another HDMI out that goes to the TV.

It's a mess of cables and it's not the most elegant looking setup but its nothing to worry about too much.

The breakout box sits between the PS4 and the TV and is what you connect the headset to. The issue is that, if you want to play ordinary PS4 games with High Dynamic Range, you have to swap the cables to remove the breakout box from the loop. With the new version, you won't have to as the breakout box will allow HDR to be throughput to the TV.

I just added a HDMI switch to the mix that supports 4K and HDR so it avoided the need to mess around with unplugging cables.

It's this one,

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00W6XRCKA

Got it after reading this article,
https://www.outofcontrol.online/perfectish-setup-ps4-pro-ps4-psvr-hdr/

It can be a bit picky about HDMI cables, but I got some of these at the same time,
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00NEMIY2M
And had no problems.

Can you wear a full pair of headphones whilst wearing PSVR headset?

Yeah, I wear my HyperXs with no issues (though on full extension). I've also used a mate's PSVR with the official Sony headset too.

Yes, I wear the Sony PS4 headset when using mine and that has pretty big cans.

A bunch of new demos were added to the store this morning collected under the Demo Disc 2. What's interesting is that it supposedly includes a demo of Moss.

Here's the full list of demos included, seems some overlap with the previous collection unless they're different sections of the games.

Battlezone®
EVE: Valkyrie
Moss
Star Child
The Persistence
Thumper
Tiny Trax
Dino Frontier *
Fantastic Contraption *
Job Simulator *
Raw Data *
Rez Infinite *

New details about movement in Skyrim have been confirmed. You can play it with Wii-style motion controls. Or you can operate it with the smooth movement (full locomotion) with a DS4 controller, i.e. no teleporting. Bethesda have added the option to blur the edges of the screen when you move - which can reduce feelings of nausea. The guy playing really seems to be experiencing the world.
