Ha, I tried VR for the first time at Amiga Format Live at Earl's Court in the early 90s. It was as bad as you'd expect, but it was a touch of the emperor's new clothes. I dont think anybody really wanted to say it was terrible.

I doubt this will be released before late 2015, most I expect to see is a brief mention at the conference and the same demos as GDC on the stage floor. I'd love to be wrong.

Unreal Engine 4 now supports Morpheus - meaning developers can easily implement compatibility with Sony's device and Epic think this VR thingamajig will have legs.

Epic Games has issued a new update for its latest videogame development engine, Unreal Engine 4. The update, titled Unreal Engine 4.2, adds a host of new features to the tool, which features support for virtual reality (VR) development. Where as previous a previous update had made the engine compatible with Sony Computer Entertainment’s (SCE) PlayStation 4, this latest addition includes support for the console’s Project Morpheus VR headset, running on both PlayStation 4 and PC.

The engine is already compatible with the Oculus Rift VR headset on PC, and has seen a slew of supported projects already announced for it. Of course, Project Morpheus running on PC doesn’t mean that SCE’s headset will be compatible with PC titles upon release, merely that developers can use the headset on the platform while creating their videogames. It should prove to make cross-platform development of Project Morpheus and Oculus Rift titles smoother, without having to transition to the PlayStation 4 for the former’s development.

Project Morpheus being played on the Jimmy Fallon Tonight Show

http://www.nbc.com/the-tonight-show/segments/7086

Virtual Reality is going to be such a revolution when it takes off next year!

One thing I noticed, Jimmy was asking where his hands were before he was given the Move controllers, Microsoft NEED to bring out their own version for Kinect! Kinect enabled VR could be the thing that makes me get an Xbox One.

Here's the vid. A fun little demo with Verge editor Joshua Topolsky explaining but no explanation of what VR does (puts you in it) so the basic graphics might make it seem underwhelming. But it's good that the idea of VR is being put out there to the masses.

http://www.p4rgaming.com/japans-health- ... ease-game/

The Japanese Health Ministry has warned for years of the imminent threat against Japan’s declining population. With women refusing to get married and men who are content dying alone, Summer Lesson appears to solidify both positions. Women will refuse to marry a man who plays Summer Lesson and men will not care because they have Summer Lesson.

“There is no turning back if this game is released,” explained population scientist Akita Osamu, “Japan’s population is already under attack and Summer Lesson will be the finishing blow. It is already affecting Japan as we speak. I am currently single and I have already pre-ordered this game earlier today. I will die alone and that is perfectly fine with me and Nahoko which is the name of the girl I have chosen for Summer Lesson.”

Even Japan’s prime minister Shinzo Abe personally went out of his way to beg Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai to prevent the release of this game. Unfortunately, Hirai said that it was out of his hands arguing that Japan would eventually fall victim to a game like Summer Lesson and believed it would be most honorable if Japan did it to themselves rather than having a game from the American Oculus Rift do it.

As for Summer Lessons. I don't think it's as bad as the press are making it seem...

Amazon don't have it available to pre-order yet - I've checked.

Sony will be hosting a 4 hour conference at 11pm dedicated to Project Morpheus, sounds like they have a LOT to show :)
