Very true, you'd be shut away in a room and playing it secretly. :shifty:
I'm still pretty much a closet gamer and don't even reveal my dirty secret that I play games. :(

People don't want to wear gooseberry fool on their faces. It's why 3D TV hasn't taken off, and it's why Google Glass isn't going to take off. Things like this are limited to a very niche market of tech enthusiasts. There is absolutely no mass-market appeal.

As someone in research who uses both the Oculus Rift and the 1st gen Sony HMD everyday, its great to see Sony branch out. Their first headset is actually very good quality. The problem with the rift is that they really should have brought a HD version out right from the start. The OLED on the Sony headset is great. You can also use the Sony hmd with the PS3 too, if memory serves me right Black Ops 2 or the COD game before could be played in 3D on the PS3.

Anyone poo-pooing this (or Oculus), I would urge you to give it a try. Both of them are amazing. It really is an incredible moment when you first slip one on.

Yes, if you're a tech enthusiast, like us. The public won't give a gooseberry fool.

People probably said the exact same thing the first time they saw the wii-mote

The Wii Remote doesn't require you to wear gooseberry fool on your face.

but it does require you to act like a complete dipshit in your living room. Which is worse?

Given that the Wii was a huge success, and 3D TV has been a complete failure, I think the question answers itself.

I didn't read anger in his post, more pity than anything.

I would happily wear a rift if it means it helps with being more immersed while playing the games I like.

C'mon though, suggesting playing games on your sofa is comparable to wearing a great big inverted bulb on your head is madness.

Of course if a Killer App is released ill be all over it but will lock the door to the spare room where ill be wearing such a silly thing.

It's a fad. End of.

and im out of topic now so carry on...

Well, I wouldn't pick it up at launch until there's tons of support for it. Hell, Sony barely supported the PS3 Eyetoy and the PS4's camera is only limited to Playroom, in terms of games. And the chances are that most of the software would be like the Playroom or other mini games software.

I'll sit on the fence for this. The same goes for Microsoft's own version.

There is a big difference between VR and 3DTV. People don’t want to sit at home wearing a pair of 3D glasses just to watch the football or Eastenders. People will be more prepared to wear a headset if it means the games are more immersive.

The Wii example is pretty good as it shows the difference between TV viewers and gamers. People will dance and throw their arms around in their living rooms to play games and they don’t care if they look like idiots. People wouldn’t be prepared to do that just to be able to watch a soap or a movie.

All this VR stuff though will come down to how well it actually works, the price of the headsets and how many games are available. If it works well, is reasonably cheap and is well supported, then I can see it being huge.
