Aren't MS also doing one as well?

I thought MS was going more down the google glass route?

Wow, that augmented reality sure will be immersive.

Somebody Else's Problem wrote:Like I've said before, of course it appeals to us, we're enthusiasts. We're into all that being transported into immersive game worlds stuff. Most people just want to blast some fools or play some footy for an hour or two after work. They really aren't going to want to bother with putting on a headset for that.

Once you set the headset up is it going to be much more hassle to use than putting on a pair of headphones?

I can imagine VR doing rather well with FPS enthusiasts.

It all very much depends on how much it costs and how good it is.

Partners will hate it.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

I would absolutely liken this to the Wii and Wii Bowling.

It's hard to remember now, but there was a time, when everyone thought the Wii would fail. Launching in the face of more powerful consoles, without a Mario game. I was working at GAME at the time and I remember we had one set up with Wii Bowling on it.

People would come in and have a go, you could see the skepticism on their faces, it looked strawberry floating stupid. But there was that moment - and we all had it - that first time you bowl a ball in Wii Bowling. Everyone breaks a smile, and makes a little "heh" noise. You can see the light coming on in their brains. They "get it".

Similarly, I've seen a lot of people trying out VR for the first time, that first moment when you pop it on (and yes, MCN, it's as easy as putting on headphones) and for a second you're a little bewildered, your eyes take the briefest moment to adjust and find their focus. Then you tilt your head, have a little look over each shoulder. And it's the exact same thing, you break into a smile, and you make the little "heh" noise. It's universal, it happens to everyone, no matter how cynical they are.

That’s why I'd urge everyone to try VR, because OR and Morpheus are like nothing you've ever used in the past. It's an incredible feeling, don't turn your back on it because you think you might look silly.

As for the mass-market appeal. Just think what porn is going to be like with this thing.

Looks pretty swish but I'll probably hold off until the revised model with penis attachment included. :datass:

I think you actually become the penis once you put it on.
In all seriousness, I'd wear something like that. I've been looking at a picture of it and can't quite fathom how, though.

This is a win for both of you. jiggles could be enjoying the latest VR games on the plane and sitting next to him, to everyone else you would also be playing a game, but really, you'd be reading the latest book in your own VR world.

Yes?

So it begins.

I did want an Xbone, but this might have tipped the scales in the other direction :dread:

I'm an animator who works mostly for TV and film. After looking into it, I purchased a Rift dev kit back in December and am experimenting with the whole VR thing.

When anyone non-tech has seen the kit they've been sceptical but the second they try it I get the same reaction of amazement. My girlfriend expressed the usual "what have you bought now" comment but as soon as she tried it out, completely got it.

Also, it's pretty amazing how your brain starts to trick itself - the rollercoaster demos especially. That feeling of vertigo and losing your balance is the future for me. If a low visual quality demo like that can provoke that reaction I can't wait to see what the big dev teams can do.

Cheers for sharing that. It ties in with this Oculus Rift video because I wanted to demonstrate just how non-gamers can respond.

Great, yet more needless add-ons that further increase the physical demands of gaming.

Plus you look like an utter tit whilst wearing the headset.

What's this 'looking like a tit' gooseberry fool? Consoles make us all look ridiculous already, in between Kinect, Wii Remotes, plastic guitars, Playstation Move...

The solution is simple.

Dont play on consoles.

Or just play games that use a standard controller.
