EDIT - Also point out that there are PSVR games on PSN on sale till Wednesday. If you've not got them then I'd definitely recommend Rez Infinite and Statik. Doom VFR and Skyrim I'd also recommend however they are cheaper to buy physically online than the digital versions on PSN.

EDIT 2 - If you don't have a copy, find a cheap copy of the original Battlefront so you can play the X-Wing VR mission. Its short but amazing.

I’ll try the demos out and existing VR games I have as part of current PS4 games first I think before splashing any more out, just in case!

If you are worried about motion sickness, just be aware that it will probably vary from game to game.

Pretty much every driving game I've played in VR has made me feel a little ill as did the likes of RIGS. Smooth turning in games (with the analogue stick) also still makes me ill on pretty much any game, but most first person games like that have a method to get round this.

Having something like the AIM controller also seems to help me, in Farpoint it directly translates into the game and you can see the thing you are holding.

By most accounts, Polybius is worth a look if you're into arcade shooters. I enjoyed playing it in standard PS4 mode and apparently the PSVR mode is great fun.

I can't overstate how the VR mission in Battlefront is the single best gaming experience I've had in 35+ years of video games - it really is amazing. I said at the time that I would probably pay £200 for a full Star Wars VR game, based on that one mission, and I still stick by that.

Sounds like some accolade there. Looking forward to trying it all out!

I really can't understand why they didn't stick a couple of VR missions in Battlefront 2. I'd have been in at launch purely for a snowspeeder/AT AT level.

I'd have overlooked BF2s issues just to play more VR missions. It's that good.

I had my first experience with VR recently while in Tokyo. It was on PSVR, albeit in a slightly souped-up way - with a moving, force-feedback seat and hot/cold air blowing at various points.

It was pretty damn good I thought, and while it was only a tech demo, it definitely got me interested in the concept. It always felt like one of those things that I'd want to try before I bought, and having now done that, I'm in two minds about investing.

My PC is decent but lacking (relatively) in the GPU department, and the cost of a new card - plus the Vive/Oculus - would be, what, £600-£700?
I intend to get a PS4 at some point anyway, but doing that as well as getting PSVR would be about £540 all-in.

The latter is the more tempting option, not just because of the price but all the other PS4 games I want to play. It's mainly my huge backlog of other games that's holding me back. Almost seems silly to invest in a PS4 just for PSVR, and then at some point (genuinely 2-3 years down the line) get around to tackling all of the PS4 games I'm interested in. Still might do it though.

If you are getting one, get the PSVR. None of the others have Wipeout.

I would love to give Wipeout a go on PSVR. In my mind I go back and forth about PSVR; one moment I'm thinking "It would make me feel sick" and "There aren't that many games with any depth"... but then I ponder "I really want to try out Polybius and Wipeout!".

I'm not keen on standing up and moving around with a headset on (due to a lack of space and the sickness issue) but I think I'd be cool with just sitting down and wearing it. It's crazy, really - I have always had little interest in PSVR but now I'm thinking "what if...".

PSVR is great if you want to sit down. A lot of games work well that way. There are a handful where standing up is necessary, but even then you don't need a huge amount of space around you. As long as you can move your arms around then you should be fine in most things.

Oh and Wipeout WILL make you ill if you don't use the comfort settings. I've never had ANY real queasiness from VR so far, but 20 minutes of Wipeout with the comfort settings off was all I could stomach. It might just be a case of building up tolerance for it, but it was pretty grim. But then, that's what the comfort settings are for, and most games that can cause motion-sickness will have settings to help minimise/eliminate it. I'll be going back to Wipeout and turning them on again and slowly work my way back to having them fully off.

There are probably around 3 tiers of games when it comes to potential for motion-sickness.

Low - Which is basically games where you are stationary, with no real movement beyond your hands and head. These are great for first time users or those prone to motion sickness. Examples: Tumble VR, I Expect You To Die, Batman Arkham VR, Superhot VR, Moss. Job Simulator

Medium - Anything with more motion, but still mostly stationary. You'll find comfort settings start to appear in games like this. Examples: Thumper, Batman Arkham VR

High - Anything with free-movement, high-speeds, or both. Comfort settings can make a big difference in games like this. Examples: Skyrim, Farpoint, Wipeout, Driveclub VR

Of course this is from my experience and others might find themselves more or less prone to it.

As I've said before, you will get used to VR fairly quickly, but it will take some getting used to. If you start feeling queasy, stop playing and take a break. Do not try to push through it.

Hey, Cheeky - thanks for the info, man - it was great to hear your views on a range of games. I'm kinda on the fence about it and, on balance, I will probably hold off. If I had the cash to splash I'd give it a go but, for now, I'll just keep an eye on the games that are arriving for it.

Absolutely. It's definitely a "Your mileage may vary" type thing.

I'm the same with smooth-turning. Hate it in Skyrim, whereas the small step-turn works perfectly for me.

I have very low tolerance for motion sickness in VR, and I'd agree with Cheeky's list.

I was very surprised to find that Thumper gave me no issues at all - at least, the demo didn't.

Skyrim smooth movement did me in, but switching to teleport sorted that out completely. It's just a shame that it's a game I just don't really 'get'.

I need a kind of 'introduction to Skyrim' as everyone seems to look the same and then tell me to go and talk to so-and-so like I know who they are and where they live!

Teleporting does suck. But in games with free-movement it can be helpful for some people.

Personally I'm fine with moving around as long as the turning is step based, rather than a smooth rotation. It just makes my head dizzy and just doesn't feel right to me.

Yeah I had to switch to the step based turning in Farpoint since smooth turning just felt all kinds of wrong and naseua inducing.

Picked my PSVR up late yesterday and got it all set up. There’s a lot of kit!

Played bits of PSWorlds (Ocean Descent, The Heist), Playroom VR and GT Sport.
Very impressive.
Couple of questions though.... how best to focus? I find the Centre is clear but slightly blurry not that far from the centre. Also, where are these comfort settings I keep reading about please?
