They really are an FPS factory.

All of which should hopefully turn out to be very high quality games coming from such a good developer.

Their first test will come when they release BiA:HH and from some of the previews it's not sounding very good.

Downgraded visuals from last year, the collision/hit detection is off, cover is full of invisible walls. :(

Hah, it'll be a long time before it's reached Mario levels of milking:

I can imagine Gearbox doing a Halo game for 360 but I would of thought Bungie would be doing the real Halo 4 for the next Xbox, so I hope they're wrong.

True, but even though I don't like Halo much myself I can't deny that Bungie are talented developers and as such I would hoipe that people wouldn't resent them for wanting to do something else.

I'm sure they have said they have three projects on the go though so we will get something else. I just can't imagine a proper Halo multiplayer FPS without Bungie.

Ah, stop yer bleating, you craven consumerist gimps; you can bluster and pretend all you like but you know the minute Halo4 hits the shelves you'll be on it like a wasp on a picnic. I know it, you know, and sadly for us all, they know it.

I've never really understood the hate people have for Halo. Anyway, i see it as being the otherway round as Rik, Bungie making the Halo squad shooter for the 360 then Gearbox or who ever making Halo 4 on Xbox 3.

I do agree with Sarge, i hope the Elites make a return. The Brutes were okay and i found some of theier battle chatter was funny but they don't have that fear factor that the Elites had about them. Playing through Combat Evolved again, the Golden Elites were pretty tough but the Black Elites you face on the last two levels were incredibly hard. I think some new Covenant classes would be good as well.

Gearbox look to be creating an emotionaly engaging experience will Hells Highway so hopefully they could bring that to the next Halo - somethings thats been lacking in previous Halo's in my opinion.

Do you think Gearbox will be given full creative control to really shake up the gameplay should they wish too? Perhaps Microsoft would want the core gameplay kept the same not to put off fans.

Gearbox has been approached about a new Halo game

By now you may have seen the rumor from Official Xbox Magazine (described on Joystiq here) that Gearbox Software (developer of "Brothers in Arms," the upcoming "Aliens: Colonial Marines"" is making the next big "Halo" game and doing it for Microsoft's follow-up to the Xbox 360.

I checked with a source I have who is close to Gearbox and the best info I can confirm is that Gearbox has definitely had conversations with Microsoft about doing a new "Halo" game and is very excited at the prospect. However, last my source heard, there was no deal in place. So as far as I can tell, it's quite possible Gearbox will be doing "Halo 4," (or whatever they end up calling it), but it's not a certainty yet.

Could be great news. Let's hope they do a better job of it then Bungie did. x

I'm sure Gearbox are more than capable of doing a good job if they are indeed working on Halo 4.

But if you could choose any developer to take over from Bungie, who would you choose? I'd definitly choose Valve because they definitly know how to make a stunning single player game and their main focus would be on making a brilliant campaign rather than focusing on the mutiplayer.

One thing i've just noticed is how short some of the levels in Halo 3 are, The Two Betrayals in Copmbat Evolved took me nearly an hour and a half to complete :o

If Vavle made it it might be worth playing for the story alone. The only recent FPs'es I've really enjoyed were Half Life 2, Portal and Bioshock, teh defining factor of these is their storytelling, that's what keeps my interest in an FPS.

I doubt Valve could make a very good Halo game.

Gearbox were responsible for the deeply wonderful Halo PC multiplayer, so I'm pretty sure they'd do a good job.

Thinking about it, Gunman Chronicles wasn't too bad either.

Gearbox are a good studio so I think the series will be in good hands if they get it.
