PostGearbox working on Halo 4 for next Xbox?
by tomvek » Tue Aug 26, 2008 11:50 am

Halo 4 will be a launch game for Microsoft's 360 follow-up, according to rumours in the October issue of the US Official Xbox Magazine.

It also reports that FPS-focused developer Gearbox is responsible for the epic task of its development, which is pretty big beans.

It wouldn't be the first time Gearbox has worked on the Halo series, having handled the PC conversion of Halo: Combat Evolved.

We also know that Gearbox has something "big" on the way, after the company president Randy Pitchford gushed all over Gearbox' official forums about a huge new unannounced project to come.

"The project won't be completed this year, or the next... It will be in pre-production with a smaller, focused team until after both Brothers in Arms Hell's Highway and Borderlands has shipped," said Pitchford.

Could this be related?

Should I change my forum username to "Randy Pitchfork"?

I think I speak for everyone when I say...STUFF HALO 4 & get to work on releasing Aliens: Colonial Marines ASAP dammit.

Still, a new Halo is good news I suppose. :(

I would have thought we'd have seen another 'proper' Halo game on the 360.

Is it? For me, Halo stopped being good after Halo 1.

It'd have a new story with all new characters though, if it's just another MC & Cortana adventure I'll probably skip it.

The Elites will also have to make a return, as good as the Brutes were in Halo 3..I thought they were a very poor replacement for the smarter & more agile Elites.

We will, I just expect it to be a prequel or a side-story parallel to the main story. They wouldn't have mentioned a new Halo game from E3 (that they apparently "had to cut out" ) if it wasn't for their current machine, it'd be marketing suicide considering the 360's current success and the massive line-up it has for the next year!

I'm not interested, the thought of playing another flood infested level puts me off. I would have bothered finishing Halo 3 if it wasn't for a friend making me do the co-op. I'll probably have to get it for the multiplayer but I'm really not bothered about it.

Aliens: Colonial Marines, especially if it's as good as Alien Resurrection/Alien Trilogy in the PS1/SS.

Unless of course Halo 4 is completely re-worked to be a squad based shooter which doesn't have MC/Cortana & reintroduces the Elites.

A Halo one. It would sell by the bucketload even if it wasn't up to the usual Bungie standard. Easy money.

None of that means Gearbox would take resources from the A:CM teams though, that one game has the potential to make or break them as a big name developer.

Oh god, they've turned this into the new Mario, milking it until the blood runs dry.

Why shouldn't they? It's a megabucks franchise and it makes good business sense to milk it.

Hah, it'll be a long time before it's reached Mario levels of milking:

Anyways, I enjoy the Halo games, I wouldn't mind another one. I think people are overreacting a bit, we've only had 3 Halo games in 5-6 years across 2 consoles (4 in 7-8 years when Halo Wars arrives) which really isn't that bad.

I would love to see any sort of good Kart game on the 360. All of my mates that come around, the ladies and the guys LOVE Mariokart, it's so simple. One button for weapons, one button for accelerate and the thumbstick is simple enough for them.

Erm, milking the franchise? This will be game number 4 in the main series spread over a decade and an RTS game. 5 games in 10 years is not that bad at all.

So Pitchfork and his team are doing Aliens, Borderlands and now this?

They really are an FPS factory.
