I haven't played this as I don't have an Xbone but I'm getting a Scorpio so I eagerly await what the results are with this as it already looks great to me. I'm expecting faster loading and maybe a bump to super smooth 60fps.
I hope some of you are still playing this by the time I get it.

I play it most days/nights on PC. I think by the time you get your Scorpio you may find online a little on the tough side.

It's already 60fps in MP (30 for Horde/Campaign)

Hello Gears fans!

When we release today's massive Rise of the Horde update for Gears of War 4, you may notice your download is noticeably bigger than usual.

We've heard your feedback on the Hard Drive footprint of Gears of War 4 being quite substantial. Over the past few months, we've been working on a new compression technique to dramatically reduce the overall file size of Gears of War 4 and to provide smaller sized downloads for future Updates. In order to reduce our file size for all the Updates since release, you'll be downloading all our Updates again as one larger Update with Rise of the Horde - but the end result will be a much smaller overall game size than before.

For those of you up to date on Update downloads, the Update will be the following size:

Xbox One: 24.5GB
Windows 10: 29GB

Following installation of this Update, the overall size of Gears of War 4 will be:

Xbox One: 78.5GB
Windows 10: 93GB

Thanks for your patience with this one-time larger download - you'll be playing Rise of the Horde in no time!

Yeah shows as 103GB now on PC, thank Christ.

It is but on PC you can have an unlocked framerate (Or locked to 60fps like I always do) in both MP and SP so maybe that's what Pete's hoping for. Also uses a dynamic resolution so isn't always 1080p on console.

With impeccable image quality, steady performance, and a whole host of modern visual effects, it's truly one of the best looking games on the console. We're eager to see how this version of the game is transformed for the arrival of Scorpio next year as well.

Also it's 1080p 94% of the time and because of Unreal 4 the image still stays clean. It's certainly a looker having played it but I'm thinking 4K at ultra may happen with Scorpio.

Yep, that's 94% in campaign/horde only at 30fps, can happen more during mp to keep it at 60fps when the action ramps up. It's nice enough looking (Ultra for me) but it really doesn't have a patch on UC4, The Order Movie/game or Horizon ZD in terms of best looking console game. Keep in mind this is coming from someone who's put in a damn good number of hours (246 according to my achievements page) into the mp and finished the campaign twice over on both Xbone and PC! Never really bothered with Horde.

I'd put it behind Rise of the Tomb Raider, Halo 5 and Battlefield 1 myself in the looks department.

That said, the sheer level of polish and game modes and options it has coupled with the quick load times and matchmaking means I keep wanting to Git Good but simply can't.

It's the worst version of Horde that I've played. It's beauty is in its simplicity, but now there's all sorts of guff in there to overcomplicate matters.

I doubt it was not what they were aiming for, but the campaign in this is so uninspired. Very...safe, like Halo 5. All the new additions add nothing whatsoever, the gameplay doesn't move forward, the plot is very poor. I can't even call it a technical showcase as most of the audio and cutscenes stuttered very badly for me. It's like the console can't handle it. The visuals were excellent in the main, though.
If I were on the fence still about buying van Xbox, like a few here are...their exclusives, first party content are really struggling. Maybe since Halo 5, or perhaps since launch. They need games, games and more games if they're going to convince a fair few of current owners to upgrade.

I've not played it but I assume the basic horde mode is just a bunch of people against waves of enemies.
I assume by complicating it they've added stuff like turrets and other deployable structures which depending on how well they work or how easy they are to deploy are either great or complete shite.

Rainbow 6 Siege had this problem with some stuff being great to use (the throwable cameras for instance are great but the mounted machine gun is a flaming pile of garbage) but it's hard to balance and if people like version with just people and no extras it should stay an option.

Kind of, they've added classes:
The Engineer - can fix turrets and structures.
The Scout - doubles the amount of 'power' (used to make turrets/spawn weapons) you can pick up, a scout will run around during or after end of the round picking up 'power' from the dead.
The Soldier - jack of all trades but should be used as your main attack guy.
The Heavy - Big and Explosive weaponry, very good when they level up
The Sniper - as above but spawns with a sniper, again, handy when leveled up.

All of these are customizable via cards you receive after matches/horde matches to increase damage, how much power you use etc etc

Personally I feel it's a step forward, I love that you can put your Power box Anywhere at start essentially making each map changeable per horde game.

I totally bounced off of Horde mode. It took far too long to get to the interesting rounds which ended up in people leaving all the time.

I still play this. Today an engineer was greifing a heavy because the heavy wanted him to refill the turret, but he was concentrating on the sentries.
