GEARS OF WAR 4 WILL HAVE SPLIT-SCREEN IN ALL MODES
Rod Fergusson, head of Gears of War 4 developer The Coalition, has confirmed that the upcoming Xbox One exclusive will offer split-screen play in all modes.
Speaking to The Game Informer Show (and reported by Gamespot), Fergusson said, "any way that you can play Gears of War 4 you can play it split-screen."
However, Gears 4's usual 60 frames per second multiplayer will take a hit - in split-screen. the game drops to 30 FPS. Campaign mode will run in 30 FPS as standard.
The thing about when Gears of War first used Mad World in a trailer, the only thing that made it work, was how different it was. It's a parallel with the song itself, really. It's not the tone itself that was so interesting, but the shift in tone from the norm. strawberry float, the thing was actually Christmas no. 1 because of its novelty, but it's a load of boring old shite by anyone's standards. Look back at that trailer now and see how poorly it's aged. When the song started playing in game in Gears 3, I straight-up burst out laughing.
The thing that frustrates me about Gears is how often it seeks to redo stuff that was successful in the past, rather than think about what caused it to resonate so much the first time around. If your product is a space marine cover-shooter in 2016, to have the same impact as you once did, you should look to emulate the why, rather than the what.
It's just a trailer, so hopefully it doesn't reflect the direction of the game itself, but if it's more of this same-again cringeworthy bollocks, I'm a lot less interested.
And strawberry float this cover of The Sound of Silence. Jesus Christ.
He's bang on. Mad World trailer for Gears 1 was really good for the time but it doesn't really work now. I can't take the trailer seriously given how much of an alpha male brofest the Gears games are.

He says he's not interested in game cos of the trailer, which is weird. Also why is an uncharted 4 trailer in here!?

It's derivative - not of its contemporaries, but of itself, ten years ago.
It then tries it's hand at putting some sort of hard-hitting, moving cutscene in. But it fails victim to Gears 3 syndrome and it just looks mawkish and pants. The sight of the bollock-armed, mandana-clad caricature Marcus Fenix playing Daddy Day Care is laughably jarring. The wife and child look like they belong to a different game.
This is the same problem that plagued Gears 2 and 3 had, with their ill-judged attempts to have serious, moving moments that tugged at the heart strings, without realising they their cast of characters were a group of overly-macho staplers with arms. They also over-extended the thin plot with attempts at building a world or lore.
The best plot was still the first game, because it didn't try to explain anything or shoehorn stuff in. Remember the second chapter with the sudden, unexplained arrival of the Kryll? I really liked how mysterious and alien it suddenly made the Gears world look. It didn't need a shoe-horned love story or a backstory.
