The publishers are literally* teaching us gamers that "you're a mug for buying our game at launch!".

* Literally.

This is exactly what I have been thinking, in the last 2 months i've picked up the following games

Gears of War 4 £21
Titanfall 2 £20
The Last Guardian £25
Dead Rising 4 £23

I picked them up at that price around 2-3 weeks after launch. Not only do you get them for half price but any kinks the games may have had may have already been patched therefore your getting a better experience than if you bought the games at launch.

I know i've learned my lesson now, next year the only games I get at launch will be the ones I pick up alongside the Nintendo Switch on launch day. Everything else i'll wait a few weeks and check the prices

Both, H; publishers (on the digital stores) and retailers (in store). In some ways the publisher's digital practices are the worst as you have a situation where a title such as FF XV was released in December and it has already seen a large price drop.

You've done well, 'milner! I have bought games at launch, not played them and then seen the price drop only a couple of weeks later. Yes, I have been an idiot :-).

I've done exactly the same, but come to accept that it will happen and I don't consider it to be a defeat to see it happen.

Perhaps it helps that I've also picked up plenty of bargains and that although I've seen price drops on games I don't spend more than around £40 on the launch prices.

I would say that it will stop me picking up stuff at launch...but I know that isn't going to happen. I've already got RE7 preordered and there are a bunch of other titles that I'll be getting at launch. I do think however that early in the year is perhaps the wrong time to look at starting to wait for price drops, the thing about this time of year is that there are always going to be sales, after this the next big sales probably won't be till Easter.

When you buy a game at launch do you play it straight away? I found that, as Jawa mentioned, I would buy a game at launch and it would sit on my shelf for months. By the time I played it I could have got it a lot cheaper

I do exactly that, I might play a little or not at all.

But like I said I've come to accept it. I do get bargains on other titles and this time of year aside its not normal for the vast majority of games to get a price drop.

The only game I've bought recently that I regretted getting at launch was Steep and that's only because not only have I still not played it, but I wasn't majorly convinced about it in the first place (I basically paid £10 more than I needed to for it).

Do people feel they are missing out by not buying games at launch? A great game is still a great game later. I can't remember the last game I paid over £20 for and now I'm happy to wait for games to hit £15 before picking up.

Yes?

Except Nintendo games, if you're lucky some retailers might try and get the cheapest price at launch. After that they ain't ever dropping.

Battleborn has a massive new update released today and... it looks kinda neat.

I was interested but the game is back up to full price on the PS Store.

(I searched for "Battleborn" in GR and we don't even have a thread for the game? :o ).

There are no player number figures for consoles but look at the player numbers on Steam and that should tell you all you need to know. I played it for about 5 minutes and couldn't take any more; the art style was visually jarring, the UI was a mess and the dialogue was the kind of late 90s attitude and "badass" that I found profoundly irritating. Save your money.

I honestly cannot remember what game it was, but I recently watched a video and thought to myself "I can't wait for the 9th gen console remaster version."

Anyone seen that new Dragon Ball 2.5D game? gooseberry fool looks amazing. Genuinely cannot wait to try it. Could never get hang on the 3D ones and whilst I will no doubt be shite at this one too, it just feels a lot more appealing to me. It's by ArcSystem and is coming to PC , PS4 and XB. GameInformer have a hub on it with the last update set for today, I think.

My only concern with DBFZ is reports that the movelist will be limited entirely to stuff like quarter circle motions (like a hadoken or tatsumaki) and lacks stuff like the Z motion (Shoryuken and other DP moves) and 360 degree motion (most command grabs).
It makes me worry that the game will lack playstyle variety and will become stale quickly. Then again smash bros for wii u manages to circumvent both of those problems to a degree (or did before Cloud and Bayonetta were released as DLC) and every character is controlled the exact same way.

All that said though I'm happy with the look of the game and the fact that the character roster is being picked based on what characters will be interesting to play as (as opposed to which characters are the "strongest" or "most important"). A lot of people seem to be unhappy that Captain Ginyu, Nappa and Android 16 are playable characters but if anything having those characters shows a level of respect to the source material and players (who doesn't want to troll people with self destruct and body swap?).

Crikey, I'd just about got my head around juggling Assasin's Creed, Mario and Wolfenstein tomorrow..... And now the Football Manager beta has launched!

Something's going to have to be ignored.

Namely, the wife and kids.

I called off his players' names as they came marching up the steps behind him....All nice guys. They'll finish last. Nice guys. Finish last.
