I picked up Dynamite Heady in really good boxed condition (but no manual) for £11 at the indie, such a brilliantly insane game I played on a Pi just a few days ago (it popped up on YouTube at some point before) and the Sega Classics emu runs like gooseberry fool anyway, couldn't resist. Really inventive game.

And another Treasure game as it happens (seems to be forming a pattern, I may end up with an expensive collection ), Bangai-O Spirits for DS, just £3 cart only!

Completely and utterly bonkers, rock hard, but soo satisfying and diverse. The slowdown is hilarious and is the only thing that makes it playable. I guess that's the game you come out with when the programmer asking to develop the project literally starts with "I want to challenge myself by programming as many on-screen projectiles as possible). Of course, the DS version comes with a frame-by-frame mode.

I've ordered a kit to fix my Amstrad's disc drive, so I'll be doing that this week. Jet set will and a bit of dizzy, here I come

Such a classic! IIRC Amstrad used 3" disks rather than the standard 3.25" disk format. Keen to hear how your repair process goes, dude.

Hopefully the old discs still have data on them, I used to love programming shite and making my own little menus etc. There was even a game I started called ADsteriods. I made the title screen and some music

Today I grabbed Yu-Gi-Oh The Falsebound Kingdom for Gamecube boxed with manual for £15

and Robot Warlords for the PS2 complete for 50pence

I received my Amstrad disc drive repair kit today so set about fixing it.

A box of nostalgia

Monitor is to the left, which having looked at the connector, might even be able to plug directly in to my megadrive Can't beleive young me never tried it, I will see if it does. Anyway.






After much sweating and swearing, I got a load of wire clips off (damn things are so hard to get hold of and separate from the pins) and opened it up. As suspected, the belt has snapped, gunkedup and wrapped around the thing on the right.


All cleaned up and 'fixed


It's about here where I wanted to have a photo of me playing jet set Willy, but after putting it all back together including all those banana split cables, the belt sounds like it's slipping, so it doesn't work

So I have to take it to bits again tomorrow, remove the new belt and give it another clean.

Great shots there, Ad! It's cool that you have the skills to tackle such a repair. I hope we get to see the mighty CPC up-and-running soon :-).

I opened the Amstrad back up and gave it another clean, so the drive works now, it just fails to read

Oh well.

I did however hook the old tape deck up to it and I'm staggered to find an old tape game loaded with no problems. The thing is something like 32 years old now.

The game was magicland dizzy It's so needlessly tough, you can die just about everywhere without warning.

I used to play the heck out of the dizzy games there hard but awesome.. sorry to hear you didn't get the drive to read Ad , it's still a cool bit of kit to have.

Dang. As kerr said, it's a shame you couldn't get the disc drive to work but at least you can still load up your cassette games, Ad.

Are you playing on an original Amstrad colour monitor?

Indeed it is. The computer itself is contained within the keyboard which gets it's power by plugging in to the front of the monitor, along with a video cable, then a 5v supply from the keyboard goes back to the monitor.

I.might open the thing up again at the weekend and have another look at cleaning the reader.

Nah go full mental and wire in a cup warmer and hand fan ,and raise it up on legs so you can get blue lights under it like a boy racers car you know it makes sense
