Yeah it's a true classic.

I used to own them all before I had a clear out. Damn awesome music got me buying them all again. :fp:

Soul Reaver blew my mind as a kid - at a point when most game stories were 'save your girlfriend/kill the baddies' having a game which was like time-travelling vampire shakespeare was amazing.

I've never actually played defiance, to my regret. Oh well, time to replay the whole series then. I've got a disc copy of Blood Omen but will probably play the emulated DC version of Soul Reaver 1 as I gather the steam version is a bit unwieldy.

The dialogue is wonderfully pomp. It wouldn't be the same without it. :D

Think I still have a sealed copy of the Dreamcast port of Soul Reaver, which for some reason I never bothered playing.

I didn't intentionally buy it, it just came with my 2nd console which I bought to replace the launch model which died on me, think there was a Tomb Raider game and 2nd copy of Chu Chu Rocket as well which also never got played as my attention moved on to the PS2 - this was after Sega discontinued the DC.

Remind me after Chrimbo when I dig out my Jap N64 again.

How much did it set you back? I've heard they go for about ¥50,000 in places like Super Potato.

I always said I would buy a Japanese N64 or GameCube while I was here, but I have never gotten around to it.

Perhaps a silly question. But I've just started collecting for the original Xbox and I've noticed that it's so cheap to buy for. Whys is that?

Many games for the system are no more than £1 each from CEX and eBay, consoles you can buy for about £20 and accessories are also very cheap. Seems a huge contrasts compared to the Gamecube which I also collect for.

I guess that there isn't much interest for it.

It is odd, Doom. The original Xbox is currently unfashionable; it's not old enough to be "retro" in some people's eyes, the console is quite big and the rise of the PlayStation brand ths generation has maybe put some folk off from looking back at the Xbox family.

But, of course, this makes it a wonderful time for Xbox collectors and enthusiasts! Most games are reasonably cheap and easy to find whilst the consoles are also inexpensive. As ever, stuff in a decent condition can still command a price, though.

Us classic Xbox fans should enjoy the situation whilst it exists! :) .

Nintendo stuff always has a premium price compared to everything else, the original Xbox was never "cool" at the time even though some would argue it was better.

The xbox was very much a PC designed as a console in terms of specs. A huge portion of the library is better played on PC and what isn't on PC can be played on new consoles.

It's good for the 360 as well - games are still very cheap, especially those which have been picked up as backwards compatible on the 'Bone.

And the vast majority of it isn't worth the premium price being asked by idiots online.

It's nuts! I got a great Xbox haul yesterday (a post in the weekenders will be up later on!). I picked up 8 games for £4! Bought an Xbox for £20 and buying an extra phat controller for another £8. Couldn't believe my luck when I found out how cheap everything was. I never owned an Xbox on release. I was very much a Gamecube lad. I'm enjoying going back and exploring the console though!

First thing I notice. It supports 480p on my HD TV... I have to pay £150 for a 3rd party accessory to do that on my GameCube. So thumbs up already!

Yeah, the Xbox output is quite nice; a little blurry by today's standards but you get used to it after a couple of minutes' play. Unfortunately PAL Xbox's don't have the option to output at 720p (even though they're capable of it) unless they're soft-modded. I've stuck with the standard output and it's fine, though :) . It's cool that you can set the screen output as "wide" from the Dashboard, too.

I have toyed with the idea of soft modding but it seems a hell of a faff! Mainly to find a 4GB usb stick that's old enough for the xbox to recognise it. Would be cool to run coin ops though.

The Xbox is meant to be pretty cool for running emulators; some folk replace the hard drive and put lots of stuff on it. I'm cautious, though, as I don't know a lot about the approach and I don't want to brick my console!

To be fair it's cheap enough to buy a modded one. They go on eBay for around £40 and that's with 160GB HDD, soft modded with coinops plus the emulators and roms ready installed.
