I took great pleasure in adopting the most chicken-shit approaches to dealing with enemies (specifically groups of enemies) in BOTW, so it's good to know I'll be able to do something similar in TWW.

Basically, they didn't have enough time to make the game. It was rushed to strawberry float.

Wind Waker's very good - definitely worth playing. It's a piece of piss though. I only died once in the game and that was when I was purposely strawberry floating around with that giant pig on Outset Island. :slol:

Yeah, what squinty said. In classic Zelda style (without giving too much away) you need to do dungeons to collect valuable tokens. There's a trio you need to obtain, the first two of which you get by completing two dungeons. You then navigate to where dungeon three was clearly meant to be, and without giving away spoilers, what you do to obtain the third token is much simpler.

It's always been possible to take the most cowardly approaches to enemy killing in Zelda - I'm especially a fan of the "shield up, constant backflips" approach from the N64 games.

There's a fantastic roll-round-the-back move in TWW that I think you'll like. I'm not sure if it's been included in future games because, err, I haven't actually played a Zelda game newer than TWW.

One of the under appreciated elements of Wind Waker was the first introduction of collectable weapons way before BotW. You can't hold onto them sure but it made for some great moments and is basically the only sensible way to fight a moblin.

The Darknut (knight) fights are also strawberry floating great and the only thing close to that in BotW is Lionels. It's probably still my favourite Zelda game.

It's in Twilight Princess too but much faster. I think maybe one other game but shorter/less obvious opening.

I went back to Banjo Tooie last night. I had 67 jiggies and had unlocked all of the levels, so was really a case - like I thought - of tidying things up before the final boss. I played for about 45 mins and got a couple more jiggies and a cheat page, but it just feels like such a chore to play. I think I need one more jiggy to fight Gruntilda, so I might just get that and head to the boss. Not sure if I can be arsed to collect everything, as much as I'd like to.

All of this actually makes me want to replay Nuts and Bolts. I love that game so much, its my favourita Banjo game and I keep longing for a sequel.

It wasn't bad but the low frame rate really hindered my enjoyment of it, felt really floaty as well, a bit like original Virtua Fighter did when doing jumping attacks.

It was pretty much the only decent fighting game on the N64 though, and the main reason I bought it - Smash Bros. doesn't count as a proper fighting game IMO and I've never understood its popularity.

I think Smash Bros works particularly because it has a ridiculous amount of depth like 2D Street Fighter but total freedom of movement. It's really a very clever game design, there's nothing else quite like it - maybe PowerStone on DC but that's sort of 3D.

Lack of time, so they cut it out for a tedious collection quest.

Powerstone was brilliant but again I wouldn't class it as a true fighting game, its kind of its own sub genre.

"The Outfoxies" came out 4-5 years before Smash and it's got a lot of the same ideas.

I did one of my ARcade Attacks videos on it (See the link in my sig if you're interested).

I don't think those were directly related, there are a few obvious missing parts to the game (apologies for minor spoilers about characters included in 14 year old game):

  • That giant fish mofo giving you the thing instead of a dungeon
  • Magical arrows obtained from tiny mini dungeon island thing
  • Another magical arrow obtained from big floaty mythical flying thing for essentially free, what is in a large island that is conveniently "destroyed" by big bastard guy
  • Pick up the big things thing from tiny mini dungeon island thing
  • All the bits of the magical triangular golden thing (although I think this was intentional, it was too long)

There's at least 2 or 3 missing dungeons, would have been incredible with them but I can see why they were cut as it would have been largely the same experience anyway just with less dungeons. I sometimes find them a bit of a slog anyway, I like the overworld and towns in Zelda and they smashed that obviously in BotW (although could have been a few more community sort of things, Windfall island was great).

Banjo Tooie update: 100%-ed Mayahem Temple and Witchyworld (which now seems small and easy by comparison  ). Missing 1 jigsaw piece in both Jolly Roger's Lagoon and Terrydactyland, both of which require water so I'm assuming there's a future move to be learned.

I understand the infinite multiple universes theory but no longer believe it as I'm certain there can be no universe in which I figure out that to cure the sick dinosaur you have to put it on the train, send it to the hub world, and have Mumbo heal the train via magic without using a guide. Also annoying was the secret passage in Mumbo's skull that leads to Tiptup's beach as I'm sure the camera never even lets you see that fragmented wall unless you're specifically looking for it but I'll chalk that one down to my own lack of childlike curiosity. I'm learning that half of the game is just to blast everything with grenade eggs. Also some of the Witchyworld jigsaw pieces were earned and not collected from years ago, so those are definitely my fault

Grunty Industries I think I have 8 of 10 pieces now, one of which is that ridiculous boss which I might leave for another six years. Still a bit scared of Hailfire Peaks so I'm going to revisit Glitter Gulch Mine as I've 7/10 so far.

-Have you got the "ultimate backtrack" jiggy?

If any of you retro players are after a SNES mini, our own LewisD is (ahem) "knocking one out" at fifty wraps. If you're interested, click here to bring more 16 bit action into your life.

1 There's a thirsty long necked dinosaur that I can't help

2 Not yet, I don't think.

And by the way I now think Hailfire Peaks is great.

Yesterday I found out that the UK version of Advance Wars Dark Conflict has an entirely different script to the version released in the US (where it's called Days of Ruin).

Bit of a surprise. Off the top of my head I can't think of another instance where there have been two completely different English scripts for games. But it's got me thinking if this is more common than I think because I was completely unaware of this for years. Doesn't help this game wasn't too popular, I guess.

I looked at a comparison and can confirm that the two scripts are really different from the get-go and apparently diverge even more later in the game with a character having a completely different personality. Can say I'm glad about what we got - the US script tries a bit too hard to be hip and is strangely written in some places.
