The only other real options for that are to buy an XRGB Mini Framemeister which seem to go for around £300-400 on eBay, or wait and see if the OSSC (Open Source Scan Converter) ever gets anything more than a really limited production. You can buy Scart to HDMI converters on Amazon but from my experience of them they're not great. I was in a similar position last year and end up picking a 21" Bravia off eBay, cost me about £10 + fuel money for a local pickup. Definitely worth it given the crazy cost of decent alternatives, you'll just have to talk the wife round :slol:

Hmm I shall have to ponder on this a while. Thanks Jamo.

That's a nice spread of N64 carts, dude! You seem to have a lot of classics as well as a few titles that often fall below the radar. I don't have Hybrid Heaven nor Foresaken and I'd like to get them at some point.

I think the last N64 title that I picked up was Fighting Force 64 (Core Design's 3D brawler) about six years ago. It's pretty hard to find and I only have the cart (usually I went for boxed versions when I could) but I was still pleased to have grabbed it.

Cheers Jawa, my copy of Goldeneye has gone AWOL and I know I have another Mario 64 somewhere, but other than that I have another six or seven titles to be added to that when everything turns up. The 64 collection is worth a good wedge now, but there are still a good number of games to pick up before it's really special.

Gamers are kind of shafted by current TVs. I'd pick up an older model if I was buying. Thankfully the one I inherited has everything. The only thing in the way is there are no scart on my av receiver.

Yeah, SCART and component seem to be a thing of the past on any new TV's now. I have a Full HD Bravia which is about 4 years old now, it's an excellent HDTV but it also has component connections, SCART and pretty good upscaling so retro games are fairly playable on it (although they still look better on a CRT). I'll be upgrading to a 4K TV for my main TV at some point in future but I'll definitely be keeping this one around as a second TV for the SCART connection.

Ideally I want to have all of my consoles under the TV in my living room. I've got a nice unit that my TV sits on with space underneath for a selection of consoles, I'm thinking PS4, Gamecube, N64 and SNES (have to buy the last 2), so really the thought of getting another TV which I'd have to find space for in another room is becoming a distant second choice. Guess I'll have to do some research into the best (cheapest) way of going about it.

It's a real shame that there's no proper retro community on the Internet. I hate reddit so don't go on their SNES or N64 pages, and retro collect - while great - is very quiet. I think I'm largely done with modern gaming beyond a few titles per year, so it'd be nice to find a place to chat regularly with like minded individuals.

I'm interested in thinking about why we can't drum that up here? I've been thinking of adding a retro collection / photo gallery sort of thing to the site for a long time.

We had a retro sub-forum years ago and that got merged due to lack of interest so I imagine it'll be even worse now :(

Retro Gamer forums used to be pretty active, not sure if they still are though.

We do have the Retro tag, which can be used to make its own sub-forum. I feel there's more tagsthat could be added but that's not going to happen

That's true, I frequently make sure threads are tagged retro. You can bookmark this and we could also add links in the main menu bar. That's actually the way a lot of gaming sites work.

Same thing really.

The retro gamer forum is not what it used to be, me and a few people I chat to online all stopped using it because all the good members left due to other members coming in and starting petty feuds and flame wars.

You should get them (the good members, not the flamers) to come here.

The ones I know aren't interested in using any new forums, but I'll talk to them anyway.

A few years back I got into the RetroCollect forum. A chap called megatrons_fury used to run a "Friday pic" thread where each (surprise!) Friday people would post a pic of some bit(s) of their retro collection and a (brief) background about it. It was good fun; both sharing something from your own collection and seeing what other folk have.

Perhaps that's something we could do in GR?

That sounds like a great idea, could be a game collection for a particular console (or series) or perhaps systems and controllers. Would be great to share our own and like you say, see what others have.

I remember the dedicated retro forum on here but it was too much of a ghost town, I do love Retro Gaming though so it'd be great to have a bit more Retro forum activity. :D

Good idea!

I had a really bad experience with the Retrocollect forum and found the members to be very aggressive, wierd hardcore selfish collectors...Not a nice bunch...

I'd be up for something like that, everything I play is PS/PS2/GC/Wii/360/GBA/DS, so would always have something to say/show.

I tend to have phases every now and again where I play nothing but retro games for a month or two. Like recently I was convinced I had gone soft playing modern games I wanted to see if I could still beat Super Mario Bros legit and it turns out I could. I also beat Probotector for the first time although admittedly I did use the Konami code to get 30 lives.

Went and had another good rummage in the loft at my parent's house this morning and much to my disappointment I couldn't find either my copy of Super Smash Bros. on GameCube (which I know is hiding somewhere the bastard! :x ) or my Megadrive2. I think my megadrive has been binned and I'm gutted :(

I did manage to find my original 1989 Gameboy (no games though and it's in a terrible state sadly) and my Wii, fully boxed and in mint condition. Will just keep that up there for another 10 years and see if it's worth anything.
