I love it! The fierce growl for Jaguar, followed by plinky plonk happy music for Atari. Brilliant.

Pretty sure Tempest 2000 is considered the definitive version. Beyond that I can't really think of much other than AVP.

What games do you have for it apart from Bubsy?

The random spinning cube with a jaguar face texture on it always gets me. Who the strawberry float came up with that.

"So when the rad graffiti/marker pen logo comes up there's a roaring sound, then we have the ATARI letters fly in in 3D and play a catchy tune. Oh and there should be a 3D cube, and it should spin and it should have a picture of a Jaguar on it"

"But the system ROM has already loaded by that point, that's too long"

"JUST strawberry floating DO IT, are you in sales?? NO!"

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

Has anyone ever used a line doubler to get a nice picture on a HDTV?

I've had an XRGB Mini for a couple of years but I've never been satisfied with it. Last week I stumped up for an OSSC and that looks far more promising.

Is XRGB not a line doubler? I think Andrew Mills use to use one of those but only for Metroid Prime stuff.

I think I'll stick down the mini CRT / OG hardware route. There's just something about the immense contrast and deep colour of the CRT that really hits me and I think the colourful artwork in the retro games are built to complement it. My next project is a custom mini SNES and I'd like to region mod a PAL SNES (so it will support RGB-Sync) with 60/50Hz switch and a modded case to fit both PAL and NTSC cartridges. That would be ultimate. :D

XRGB is a scaler. There's a difference but I'm not clever enough to articulate it. Essentially a line doubler = zero lag (apart from what your TV introduces) + a pure RGB colour palette

I see. In which case yes the scaled image would be resampled making it blurry whereas a if you doubled each line it would appear sharp and then theoretically you can just stretch the image horizontally to get 1:1 (or 2:2) pixels in 480 lines (or 576 for PAL).

In celebration of the SNES Mini announcement, I treated myself to my 33rd SNES game - Super Bomberman! As usual, mint boxed and complete :-)

Super Bomberman! The music from the battle mode is etched into my mind. The two Bombermen kicking the bomb at each other

That's on my list. Reckon I'll try and get a decent collection of SNES boxed games when I finish up with n64 collecting in a couple of years time.

I don't think it's changed since the last picture I posted. This is the first game I've purchased in a few months.

Sort of on topic, just realised after getting Crash today that it's been quite a retro theme of purchases on PS4 for me this month

So having finished VJ I needed a new game to start. Thankfully I've a plethora of unplayed games in my GC collection but I didn't want anything too deep as typically my gaming sessions aren't what they once were due to time constraints. So I opted for Wave Race Blue Storm.

Have to say I'm really happy I chose it. At first I was not enjoying it as I found the cornering very tough. But then I switched characters to someone with better manoeuvrability and found my groove. It's ace! It's challenging without being too difficult and provides you with that satisfying "ahh!" feeling once you finally crack the steering and learn the courses. Managed to dust off the first championship before switching off having gone into the final race in a 3-way tie for 1st place.
