That narrows the problem down a bit further. If the megadrive is still producing the correct video output by a different method it would seem that the issue has to lie between the RGB output and wherever encodes that output.

Unfortunately that doesn't pin it down precisely because major revisions of megadrives have different board layouts.

Managed to pick up a Dreamcast today in fantastic condition for a good price.

£40 boxed with all the original inserts, bags, manuals, leads etc. even the dreamkey itself is sealed. The only thing missing is the demo disc. The consoole itself and pad are in excellent condition, not a mark or a bit of yellowing. Looks practically brand new. :D

I love demakes/ports like that.

As Sonic Adventure is part of the SEGA Humble Bundle (go get it now - Sonic Adventure DX, Crazy Taxi (Offspringless), Space Channel 5 Part 2, SEGA Bass Fishing, Nights Into Dreams (Inc. Christmas Nights), Sonic All-Star Racing Transformed and DLC for a couple of other games - all in tier 1) I've been giving it a go.

First level I died because I fell through the floor within a minute. After beating the level I ran back to the doors and got stuck under the balcony, twitching like a maniac.

I really do love this game so I'm willing to overlook a lot of it (I love the music especially) but it's buggy as hell - and the DX version seems to be just as, if not more buggy, than the Dreamcast one I had.

From memory, NGC slated the GC version of DX as being horrifically buggy too.

I have played through both the GC and the DC version and the only real bugs I got were in Windy Valley on the latter, I think.

The PS3 version of DX is buggier than ACU. Utterly dreadful port.

SA2 is much better but sadly the game is gooseberry fool ( outside the first level ).

My mate in work got one of these.

http://www.funstock.co.uk/jxd-s7800b-an ... ing-tablet

It's so nice, huge screen, expandable memmory and one of the easiest/laziest emulators I've ever seen as they're all preloaded, you just pick roms in an online shop (most are free, like 99% of them)

It's a proper tablet too, very tempted at the mo, lovely to hold, decent D-pad, button remapping etc, it's been proper designed for retro gaming from what I saw of it.

It's meant to be pretty good. I might be tempted to pick one up next year.

That is a shame to hear.

I was waiting for the next time there was a Sonic sale and was going to pretty much rebuy all the old games again (Sonic 1, 2, 3 and Knuckles, CD and SA 1 and 2). I don't have any of them here with me and fancied going through them all again.

Well, the Sonic parts of SA 1 and 2 anyway. I am not that much of a glutton for punishment.

That's my brothers 30th birthday present sorted.

Shame I can't use one myself as it looks brilliant.

It honestly is, I mean, I use an old PSP as an emulator and it puts it to shame.

It's a really classy peice of kit, much better than what I was expecting.

Those Android consoles are in stock at Gameseek now at a much more reasonable £100 if anyone is interested:

http://www.gameseek.co.uk/pd/Electronicspscge5pak

I looked into importing from China and to be honest after customs etc you'd be looking at the same sort of price.

PSP has perfect PS1 emulation though, and everything before that is near perfect.

Also dedicated controls without the need to remap, a portable size and also you can pick a PSP up for ~£20.

idk man, nothing beats the PSP for old school emulation. Even if Android is catching up (probably is better at this point), you can't go wrong with PSP.

need to buy one again...

Though that one at gameseek has HDMI out, so hooked up to a TV with bluetooth controller would be fantastic!

Rumours abound that After Burner Climax will be removed from Xbox Live and PlayStation Network on 24 December.

Apparently this is due to license expiration; rather like when OutRun was removed a while ago. It's well worth picking up if you're fond of Sega's arcade classic.

...I'm holding out for a 32X-2. It'll give the Mega Drive similar power to current consoles.

Digging around in the loft earlier for my playstation stuff and I found a treasure trove of retro stuff I'd forgotten I had.

Amongst it is a mint copy of Christmas nights (whinch I've never been able to play). Isn't that quite rare/valuble?

Also found a load of mega cd games which Suzz said were getting quite valuble now I think on the retrocollect podcast.

Got that Mega Drive Collected Works book for Christmas. Just been having a read through of it. It's so good. Love the illustrations as well.
