The NES is a great machine and well worth getting into, I see they have a cart of Blaster Master which is a great game. I also spy Snake rattle n roll for a good cart only price...I'd look up some online prices to though for carts as some of these look very cheap and others a bit steep.

Also if you have a CEX near have a look when they get NES carts they can be very well priced, had plenty of decent stuff from my local.

I tried to get my megadrive collection in retro gamer a few years back , they told me it wasn't good enough , opened a copy of there mag about a year ago someone had a smaller collection but what shocked me is the main thing being shown off was The Punisher with them saying it's worth £250 , that's one of the games I have , I traded with my brother for it 15 years ago and had no clue it had that kind of price bracket now.

Got a couple of goodies coming in the mail over the next few days.

Got RGB SCART cables coming for my Saturn and Dreamcast, as well as an Action Replay RAM/Save Cart for the Saturn and a VMU for the DC.

Decided that I'm going to focus on getting the most out of the systems that my Pi 3 can't handle too well first, before going back and dealing with my other systems. Though I do have a list of jobs I need to do on them. Aside from getting the best video output from them all I'm planning to:

Master System – RGB SCART Mod
Mega Drive - 50/60Hz Mod
Mega CD – Internal Fuse replacement (Doesn't power on at all and I think that's why)
Saturn – RAM Pack (Softmod)/Replace internal battery/60Hz Mod
Dreamcast – Replace internal battery/Reverse yellowing
NES – Replace Cartridge interface / RGB MOD
SNES – Reverse yellowing
GameCube – GB Player/Replacement Drive lid

Also got three big 61cm x 91cm posters on they way as well. Should look nice on the wall.

Spoilered for size.

They'll go nicely with the Super Mario Bros 3, Majoras Mask and Metroid Prime ones I've got on the way. Though I've only got wall room for 3, so I've got decisions to make.

Amazon. There's quite a lot of 61x91.5cm posters for about £4-£8, but I couldn't get the Metroid ones for that price.
Luckily I had some vouchers so I was able to get them from a US seller, but they were a fair bit more expensive. About £12 each I think.

£7 from Oxfam, brand new. According to the box this didn't come out until 2004!

Yes I know it's sad, but the thrill of picking up a sealed copy of a PS1 game in 2018. :datass:

I am a little worried about my Mega CD (model 1) as I haven't used it for several years and the two common issues for this model are fuse replacement and lens replacement. I don't have the equipment or knowledge on replacing them. Your post has tempted me to dig it out and connect it up! I do have a Mega CD (model 2) which apparently is less likely to have any tech problems... but I prefer the look of the Model 1 :) .

Man, white plastic can be such a pain. My SNES and Amiga (both the computer and - especially - the monitor) have pretty serious yellowing. I've read that it's caused by the flame retardant used back in the 1990s and I know that you can use chemicals to reverse the discolouration but (a) it's not easy to get hold of the stuff and (b) you have to know what you're doing!

I was just going to replace both the DC and SNES because of those very reasons. But then I found this:
http://www.thedreamcastjunkyard.co.uk/2 ... brite.html

Basically you can do it with this hair peroxide, which is cheap and easily available in the UK.

So I'll be giving that a go and seeing what happens. Worst case scenario I have to buy replacements, which was the original plan anyway.

Thanks, Dev - this looks very interesting! I had read about Retr0Brite before and the complexity had put me off... but this alternative option looks more manageable. Dunno if I've got the nuts to try it out, though :) .

Very possibly. I'm assured that watermark isn't on the actual posters, but they'll be getting returned if they are.

Thanks for cimments. I'm heading back today. This place always beat CEX (yes!) by as much as 10-20 quid which is great.

They fairly price based on average sale price and conditions so while not always the cheapest it is very convenient and no hassle so I always bars that in mind.

I will update on my haul, I reserved the NES as I wanted to sleep on it and I didn't even notice blaster master zero , I played the 3DS port and it was awesome, I had that in mind.

I'm thinking excitebike and maybe Zelda at the moment.. and blaster master. Mario bros 3 but they also have all stars for SNES so in terms of value that may be a better option.

So many choices..

It turns out those robot looking games are not great for the money (Mazin Wars interesting but flawed) on MD so I may pick up Ecco or a similar missing game like that for cheap (£7 I think).

I think I'd get a mini NES rather than collect a machine and various games, although I'd probably be interested in certain decent condition games

What about the boxed NES ,it has 2 controllers and boxed Mario Bros inside so the mint collection aspect is only £14 when compared with other stuff in the shop. It's really tempting, however the similarly minty console alone is just £54.. and that 45 quid could go into a few SNES or MD games instead. Such as super metroid (although I've already completed it on Wii U...)

There's something that feels just wrong about paying up for a NES mini when you can just buy a console and at least one game for the same price.. but maybe only if you have a decent CRT.

So many choices. What will I pick? Stay tuned!

Get the NES and an Everdrive cart? You'll still get the "many games, one system" experience the NES Mini provides, while also the thrill of genuine hardware.

EDIT: Though a quick check shows NES Everdrives being about £85. :?
